YMCA Immigrant Services in Halifax, NS is seeking a full-time Youth Intervention Program Staff to empower newcomer youth and support their settlement and social inclusion. You will work with families and community partners to deliver targeted interventions and services, ensuring accessibility and responsiveness to diverse needs.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Work with youth, families, and community partners to ensure youth are equipped with tools for social inclusion and well-being.
• Lead and coordinate activities to support newcomer youth during settlement and integration.
• Create safe, inclusive spaces for youth to connect, learn, and access support services.
• Develop, refine, and adapt program activities based on client and community needs.
• Develop and support recruitment to ensure active participation in program activities.
• Prepare program materials, venues, and resources for workshops and events.
• Schedule client appointments, group sessions, and calendars to meet targets.
• Monitor program outcomes and track progress and engagement.
• Provide direct support to clients with resources, information, and referrals.
• Collaborate with coordinators and community organizations to strengthen service delivery.
• Maintain program records and data entry; assist in preparing reports on outcomes.

About the Role:

The Youth Intervention Program Staff plays anessential role in the planning, implementation, and delivery of servicesdesigned to support and empower newcomers as they settle in their newcommunity. This position, under the supervision of the Coordinator, works toensure that programs and services are inclusive, accessible, and responsive tothe diverse needs of newcomers, fostering a sense of belonging.

This role will be an integral member of a dynamicprogram team, providing targeted support to newcomer youth at risk, helpingthem navigate challenges such as violence, vulnerability, and socialintegration.

This role focuses on providing individualizedintervention and mentorship to at-risk youth, while also collaborating withcommunity organizations, schools, and stakeholders to address broader issuesaffecting youth, including violence and systemic barriers. Through culturallysensitive support, the staff will empower newcomer youth to overcome adversity,build resilience, and thrive, while working to create safer and more inclusivecommunities for all young people.

In this role, you will:

• Work with youth, their families, and communitypartners to ensure that youth are equipped with the tools, resources, andopportunities for social inclusion, empowerment, and well-being, helping themdevelop the skills and confidence to succeed in their new environment
• Lead and coordinate activities designed to support andengage newcomer youth as they navigate their settlement and integration processin their new community
• Create safer, inclusive, and empowering spaces fornewcomer youth to connect with each other, build essential skills, and accesssupport services
• Develop and refine program and service activitiesbased on the needs of clients and community
• Develop, implement and support recruitment plan andefforts to ensure active participation in program activities and services
• Prepare and setup of program materials, venues, andresources required for workshops, events, classes and/or service delivery
• Schedule client appointments, group sessions,workshops and program calendars to ensure targets are met
• Support the monitoring of program outcomes by helpingtrack progress, engagement, and overall program success
• Provide direct support to clients attending programs,ensuring they have the necessary resources, information, assistance andreferral to additional services when needed
• Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to establishand maintain strong relationships with community organizations, serviceproviders, and stakeholders, enhance service delivery and building a supportivenetwork for clients
• Assist with maintaining program records and trackingparticipation, ensuring accurate data entry into organizational databases.Support the Program Coordinator in preparing reports on program outcomes andclient feedback
• Participate in team meetings, training opportunities,and collaborative planning activities to support program success andorganizational objectives.

Education and Skills Qualifications:

• Relevant education and/or combination of training orexperience in human service delivery, Child and Youth care, settlement servicedelivery, community development or equivalent
• Experience working with immigrant, refugee, newcomer,and/or priority youth in community, settlement, education, social service, oroutreach settings. Lived newcomer experience is considered a strong asset.
• Demonstrated ability to build trusting relationshipsand effectively engage youth facing complex challenges, including socialisolation, family conflict, school disengagement, mental health concerns,substance use, housing instability, or involvement with the justice system.
• Knowledge of positive youth development,strengths-based, trauma-informed, and harm reduction approaches to supportingyouth.
• Experience providing client support, outreach,advocacy, referrals, and navigation of community resources and support systems.
• Experience planning and facilitating youth-centeredactivities, workshops, wellbeing programs, and community engagementinitiatives.
• Ability to identify barriers to participation anddevelop creative, individualized strategies that support youth engagement,inclusion, and success.
• Strong knowledge of community resources, referralpathways, and services available to youth and newcomers
• Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity,inclusion, belonging, anti-oppressive practice, and culturally responsiveservice delivery.
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, andcross-cultural communication skills, with the ability to engage effectivelywith youth, families, colleagues, community partners, and stakeholders.
• Strong conflict-resolution, de-escalation, and problem-solvingskills, with the ability to manage challenging situations with professionalism,empathy, sound judgment, and appropriate boundaries.
• Experience collaborating with schools, families,community organizations, service providers, and multidisciplinary teams tosupport positive youth outcomes.
• Knowledge of confidentiality, privacy, informationmanagement, and ethical practices when working with youth and families.
• Experience maintaining accurate records, programdocumentation, and reports, including tracking participant progress and programoutcomes.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel,PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience using databases, or program managementsoftware.
• Ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative,and effectively manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, andin community-based settings as required.
