Job summary

Enviros is hiring a Youth and Family Practitioner for Journeys, a six-bed live-in program for youth 12–17 with Children’s Services status. The role is 0.8 FTE, 32 hours/week, Friday–Monday 3pm–11pm, located at Journeys in Calgary.

You’ll build therapeutic relationships and support daily living, routines, and safety in a trauma-informed, culturally aware environment. Responsibilities include developing care plans, coordinating with families and supports, crisis intervention, and collaboration

Qualifications

• Diploma/Undergraduate Degree in a Human Services related field.
• Experience with trauma-informed, cultural awareness and strength-based practice.
• Experience working in group care programs is an asset.
• CPR and first aid certification

Responsibilities

• Build therapeutic relationships with youth to support daily living and behavior management.
• Use trauma-informed, culturally aware approaches to keep youth safe.
• Support sleep hygiene routines and provide structure for youth.
• Assist with case plans, safety plans, and natural supports with the team.
• Provide crisis intervention and support.
• Help uphold accreditation standards and attend staff meetings.
• Support household health, safety, and housekeeping tasks such as cooking and errands.

The Program – Journeys

The Journeys Program is a six bed Live-In Program for youth ages 12 to 17 years who have status with Children’s Services. Journeys offers a recreation, life skills and relationship-based program, with an average stay of 6-12 months. The intention of the youth’s stay is to collaborate with the youth and their supports to identify strengths and areas of growth where resourcing and skill development can be done with the aim of supporting the youth’s successful transition back to their family (parental or kinship setting) wherever possible, or into a less intrusive placement where indicated by the case plan.

The programming at Journeys focuses on cultivating each youth’s sense of self-worth and helps each youth identify, establish, and maintain healthy relationships with their supports to allow for successful and stable transitions. The Journeys Program provides youth with a safe and nurturing environment; individualized care plans; educational and recreational activities; and the development of daily routines. The development of strong positive relationships is a key component of the overall success of the Journeys Program.

The Position – Youth and Family Practitioner

This 0.8 position will be based at Journeys and will include direct involvement and support of the program and youth. Hours of work: 3pm – 11pm Friday – Monday, with mandatory trainings and staff meetings outside of rotation.

Responsibilities

• Build and develop therapeutic relationship with youth to provide effective support with daily living and to work through potentially challenging situations/behaviors.
• Using a trauma informed and culturally aware approach to create a physically and emotionally safe environment that supports program objectives.
• Actively engage youth with their sleep hygiene routines providing support and structure to youth in the program
• Administrative responsibilities to support the Key Workers which may include but is not limited to, developing case plans/ safety plans, supporting family connection and development of natural supports, attending appointments and meetings, collaborating with teams to work towards identified goals, creating individualized programming to meet the needs of youth.
• Provide crisis intervention and support
• Help ensure all accreditation standards are upkept and met
• Attend and contribute to regular staff meetings
• Support household health and safety standards and overall housekeeping duties including but not limited to, cooking, cleaning, errands

Education & Experience

• Diploma/ Undergraduate Degree in a Human Services related field

Other Qualifications

• Valid Class 5 driver’s license (Class 5 GDL will not be accepted)
• A clean driver’s abstract containing not more than two (2) minor offences or one (1) major offence
• Police Record Check with Vulnerable sector check (within six (6) months)
• Child Intervention Check (within one (1) year)
