Job summary

Cooper Equipment Rentals Limited in Dartmouth, NS is hiring a Yard Coordinator to keep the yard safe, organized and ready for rentals. You’ll inspect returns, stage equipment for upcoming rentals, and perform cleaning and detailing to standards.

This hands-on role requires outdoor work, strong teamwork, and a willingness to operate forklifts and other construction equipment as needed. Overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment on return, report damage or maintenance needs, and tag as required.
• Stage and move equipment in the yard to support rentals and deliveries.
• Ensure equipment is rent‑ready by checking condition and inspections.
• Wash and detail rental equipment using appropriate tools and products.
• Assist drivers with loading and unloading equipment safely.
• Operates forklifts and a variety of construction equipment as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe yard and wash bay, with organized storage.
• Support fueling, tire storage, and other yard duties as required.
• Communicate equipment status and needs to team members.
• Collaborate with drivers, mechanics, and rental coordinators to keep operations smooth.
• Adhere to all health, safety policies and procedures.
• Pitch in wherever needed to support the team and customers.

Job Summary

As a Yard Coordinator, you’ll play an important role in keeping our branch running smoothly and ensuring our rental equipment is clean, safe, and ready for our customers. This is a hands‑on role where you’ll work with a variety of construction equipment—inspecting returns, staging equipment for upcoming rentals and deliveries, cleaning and detailing equipment, and keeping the yard safe and organized. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working outdoors, staying active, being part of a team, and learning about construction equipment and the rental industry.

What You’ll Be Doing Duties and Responsibilities

• Inspect equipment as it is returned to the yard, identify and report visible damage or maintenance concerns, and complete service tags as required.
• Stage, organize, and move equipment throughout the yard to support upcoming rentals, deliveries, and returns.
• Help ensure equipment is rent‑ready by checking its general condition and completing required inspections.
• Wash, dry, and detail rental equipment using pressure washers, vacuums, and appropriate cleaning products.
• Assist drivers with safely loading and unloading equipment.
• Safely operate forklifts and a variety of construction equipment as required.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized equipment yard and wash bay.
• Assist with fueling, tire storage, moving equipment, and other general yard duties as needed.
• Communicate equipment status, damage, or service needs to the appropriate team members.
• Work closely with drivers, mechanics, rental coordinators, and other branch team members to help keep day‑to‑day operations running smoothly.
• Follow all company health and safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Pitch in wherever needed to support the team and our customers.

What You’ll Bring to the Team Qualifications and Requirements

• Valid Class 5 driver’s licence with a clean or satisfactory driver’s abstract (no more than 3 demerit points). You’ll be required to provide an updated driver’s abstract upon request.
• Comfortable working outdoors year‑round and performing physically active work, including standing for extended periods and lifting approximately 50 lbs.
• Forklift experience and/or experience operating construction equipment is a strong asset.
• Mechanical aptitude or an interest in learning how construction equipment works is an asset.
• Comfortable using computers and technology to complete inspections, update equipment information, and perform other day‑to‑day tasks.
• Dependable and organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to keep up in a busy, fast-paced environment.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude with a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed.
• Strong communication skills and the confidence to speak up when you notice equipment damage, safety concerns, or something that doesn’t look right.
• Customer‑service mindset and a professional approach when interacting with customers, drivers, and team members.
• Eager to learn and develop your knowledge of construction equipment and the equipment rental industry.
• Available and willing to work overtime when required.
