Job description

Woodwork Teacher 2025-2026

The Nelson Waldorf School is seeking applications for a part-time Woodwork Teacher for grades 5 to 9. The position is available for the 2025–2026 school year, with the contract beginning mid-August 2025.

The Woodwork teacher will bring joy and enthusiasm for teaching woodworking. Key qualities include strong safety-oriented shop teaching, communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a class of up to 15 students and should have excellent class management and organizational skills.

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1. Delivering a comprehensive woodwork curriculum following Waldorf pedagogy, integrating BC Ministry requirements
2. Maintaining woodworking equipment and tools
3. Reporting on students according to Faculty agreements and BC Ministry standards
4. Abiding by BC Independent School teacher conduct and competency standards
5. Attending weekly faculty meetings

Reports to: Principal of the School

Terms of Employment: Permanent, part-time (approximately 0.55 FTE; $30,000 to $35,000), plus benefits (health, disability, life insurance, and tuition), with increments for related experience.

Education and Skill Requirements:

• BC Teacher Certification required

Completion of Waldorf Teacher Training with a clear understanding of Rudolf Steiner’s education philosophy is preferred, or willingness to undertake Waldorf training.
