Job summary

The Ottawa Police Service invites applications for the 2027 Youth In Policing Initiative (YIPI) Youth Placement (WINTER). This paid placement offers exposure to police operations, community programs, and skill-building for future employability.

Location varies by section and the rate of pay is $17.95 per hour, with 12–35 hours per week. Eligibility requires current full-time secondary student status in Ottawa, Canadian work eligibility, and successful completion of recruitment/background checks.

Qualifications

• Must be a registered full-time student (in a secondary educational program) during the current academic year.
• Resident of Ottawa.
• Between 15 and 18 years of age for the duration of the program.
• Eligible to work in Canada.
• Successfully complete the recruitment/background check process.

Responsibilities

• Compile, insert, retrieve, and reorganize information on databases and spreadsheets.
• Perform clerical/administrative duties including filing and data entry, including purging old or duplicate files.
• Answer general inquiries by phone.
• Photocopy, sort, distribute mail.
• Provide assistance with special projects.
• Promote and support Crime Prevention initiatives.
• Assist external agencies with their programs.
• Work within the community as an ambassador and support sports, arts and recreational programs with partner organizations.
