Job Description:
Position Summary

Assist with identifying or verifying required maintenance work, interpreting contracts, scheduling and coordinating in-house or sub-contractor work, and ensuring work meets contract specifications. Help ensure all aspects of the contract are coordinated and completed in a timely, efficient, effective, and profitable manner.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Ensure services provided are in compliance with approved performance standards.
  2. Perform condition assessments of pavements, signs, guardrails, bridges, vegetation, and other contract elements.
  3. Assist with scheduling and coordinating work to be performed.
  4. Complete paperwork to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
  5. Develop and manage performance of all patrol staff.
  6. Assist with managing, monitoring, and controlling highway project assets and materials.
  7. Identify opportunities for changes and improvements in work methods, processes, efficiency, and cost reduction.
  8. Ensure accurate and timely completion and entry of work reporting and timesheets.
  9. Purchase supplies and maintain an inventory within the assigned patrol area.
  10. Coordinate and track all required new hire training and ongoing safety and work standard training.
  11. Assist with inspection, calibration, and repair of fleet.
  12. Investigate and report all accidents/incidents.
  13. Work with the office manager and Health and Safety Manager on all accident/incidents resulting in WSIB claims.
  14. Responsible for completing and updating schedules for winter staff to ensure compliance with the Collective Agreement.
  15. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Knowledge of basic math functions and calculations.
  2. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents and technical procedures.
  3. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and the public.
  4. Ability to multitask, use resources effectively, and meet schedules.
  5. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and familiarity with the Internet.
  6. Effective communication skills with co-workers and subcontractors, and understanding of safety protocols.
  7. Ability to think clearly and focus on safety while using tools and equipment or operating vehicles.
Education and Experience
  1. High School Diploma or equivalent; relevant work experience considered.
  2. Minimum three years of experience in construction and/or road maintenance preferred.
  3. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Work Conditions/Physical Demands

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Use of manual and powered tools and equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office and field work.
  • Exposure to weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold, and occasional exposure to chemicals, noise, and high places.
