Job summary

City of Winnipeg is seeking a Waste Diversion Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy equipment at 4R Depots and related sites. You will load, haul, and compact waste and recyclables to keep operations efficient and safe.

You will perform inspections, maintain records, and support depot upkeep, including training junior staff and following site rules. Strong communication and reliability are essential in a busy public-facing role.

Qualifications

Grade 10, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Two years' experience operating heavy equipment such as a roll-off truck or skid-steers.
Experience working with customers/contractors in challenging situations.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience organizing and prioritizing tasks in a busy public-facing environment.
Experience maintaining accurate records (inspections, reports).
Experience using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
PC literacy including Windows and MS Office applications.
Strong communication with customers, contractors and City staff, both spoken and written.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment and vehicles to move, load, haul, and compact waste and recyclables at 4R Depots and related sites.
Maintain vehicles, equipment, and work areas through inspections, repairs coordination, and housekeeping.
Complete inspections and documentation to support safe operation and tracking of materials and work.
Perform duties of the Waste Diversion Site Attendant as needed to support depot operations.
