Through our innovative platform, Float enables businesses to streamline financial operations and optimize cash flow, so they can focus on what matters most: growth.

As one of Canada’s fastest growing companies and top-rated startups in 2024 and 2023, Float is customer-obsessed, passionate and entrepreneurial, with a team that includes leaders from Uber, Shopify, Top Hat, TouchBistro, and Ada.

At Float, everyone is an owner, bringing their unique perspective to our team and product. Your voice is important, and we take having a culture based on feedback seriously. We openly share our thoughts and differing opinions so we can continue to improve. We do our best to keep our decision-making decentralized so that all team members feel ownership in our success.

Our Product

Float is Canada's complete business finance platform, combining modern financial services and software to help businesses spend, save, and grow. Trusted by 4,000 Canadian companies, Float provides high-limit corporate cards, automated expense management, next-day bill payments, high-yield accounts and fast, friendly support—all built in Canada, for Canada. Float is backed by world-class venture and fintech investors, including Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives and OMERS Ventures, partners behind our $70 million Series B raise.

Our team is a collection of ambitious, collaborative and mission-driven people from all walks of life but with one goal: helping Canadian companies not just survive but thrive. And we’re looking for bold innovators to help shape the future of business finance in Canada.

About The VP, People Role

We are looking for an outstanding VP, People to help guide us and our business through a critical moment of evolution and growth. As a key partner to the executive team and a steward of our culture, you’ll have full ownership of all People-related programs and systems, from performance management to organizational design and operational infrastructure.

This is a high-impact, high-trust leadership role at the heart of our company. We’re looking for a hands-on, growth-oriented leader who can drive change fast, enable velocity, and elevate organizational performance to world-class standards. You’ll be responsible for building a high-performing, values-driven organization with relentless accountability, ensuring Float attracts and retains the highest-calibre talent in the world.

The ideal candidate combines sharp business acumen with decisive action—unafraid to restructure teams, roll out new frameworks, or deliver hard truths with clarity and conviction. If you're motivated by impact, ambition, and the opportunity to shape the future of a company scaling at speed, Float is the place.

In This Role, You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Organizational Velocity & Agility: You will be a key thought partner to the CEO & Leadership team on how to drive organizational velocity, adaptability, and agility as we scale toward our mission of simplifying Finance for Canadian businesses.
  • Performance Management and Continuously Raising the Bar: Build and oversee systems of accountability that drive world-class performance by setting clear expectations, fostering organizational clarity, and cultivating a culture of ambition to continuously raise standards of performance.
  • Talent Development: Create scalable frameworks and initiatives that enable the growth of world class individual contributors and people leaders, ensuring a strong internal leadership pipeline.
  • People and Workplace Strategy: Define and execute a People and Workplace strategy that enables access to the best talent, supports evolving business needs, and designs the right structures and environments to fuel high performance.
  • HR Excellence and Business Partnership: Set the strategy and oversee the execution of world-class HR programs across the employee lifecycle, including:
    • Onboarding experience and enablement
    • Total Rewards, Compensation, and Equity programs
    • Benefits and perks design and optimization
    • Performance management frameworks and talent reporting

You will be a fit for this role if you have:

  • Strong Business Acumen: You have a foundational background in management consulting, finance, or positions that have required sharp commercial judgment and strategic insight. You show an ability to understand broader organizational dynamics beyond traditional HR functions.
  • Business Owner Mentality: You believe your responsibility is to achieve our collective business objectives before advocating for your functional responsibilities. You craft your objectives in response to the organization's needs rather than advocating for functional HR goals.
  • Willingness to Embrace Change: You constantly strive to improve and raise the bar for yourself, your team, and the organization. You are resilient in the face of challenges and seek out opportunities to improve.
  • Organizational Leadership and Impact: You drive organizational change and accelerate operational velocity. You proactively define how Float can achieve it’s organizational and customer objectives through the lens of our team, rather than allowing existing circumstances to dictate how we proceed forward.
  • Systems-Oriented Thinking: You approach challenges through a systems lens, focusing on structures, processes, and interdependencies rather than individuals alone.
  • Truth-Seeking and Truth-Speaking are at your core: Scrappy and voracious, you want to know the ‘why’ behind every answer. You proactively surface insights on the team and business no matter how difficult the conversations, and hold the team accountable to outcomes.

This Role Won’t Be a Fit If

  • You are not a self-starter and require close oversight to make progress
  • You aren’t deeply invested in building and refining your craft
  • You require existing structure and are uncomfortable working through ambiguity
  • You are uncomfortable giving and receiving direct feedback
  • You seek stability over growth and change
  • You aren’t comfortable prioritizing work in a fast-moving environment
  • You lack a strong sense of ownership and work ethic
  • You see People work as administrative, not strategic
  • You struggle to lead through influence and cross-functional partnership
  • You aren’t resilient
  • You are more focused on personal ego than on collective success
  • You avoid hard conversations, accept decisions without question, and shy away from holding leadership accountable when it matters most

Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role, and you strongly align with our values but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this, or other future positions.

Benefits & Perks Of Working At Float

  • Competitive compensation & total rewards
  • Flexible time off when you need to recharge
  • Catered lunches on Tuesdays & Wednesdays
  • A personal Float card with a quarterly stipend to spend on what matters most to you as well as a Home Office stipend
  • Lots of autonomy to make an impact
  • Opportunity to work with and learn from a world-class team
  • A dog-friendly office
  • Being able to say you helped make Float a career-defining period of our employee’s lives - one that is challenging, rewarding, impactful, fulfilling and meaningful!

We’re committed to building a workplace that’s welcoming and accessible for everyone. If you need any accommodations during the hiring process or once you join Float, just let us know! You can reach out to Vic (victoria@floatcard.com), and we’ll work with you to make sure you have what you need to succeed.
