Job summary

Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Switchboard Operator/Receptionist to manage hospital call handling, direct patients and the public at reception, and support internal operations including pager issuance and information distribution. The role includes assisting with local travel needs for patients and visitors.

Shifts cover 24/7 operations, with 70 hours bi-weekly; days, evenings and weekends are required. A health benefits package is available to successful candidates.

Qualifications

• Experience in health care/emergency or related field is an asset.
• Knowledge in operation of telecommunications equipment and basic computer skills.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to respond to, follow and interpret emergency procedures.
• Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

Responsibilities

• Receive and transfer all calls directed to patient rooms and hospital lines.
• Direct/assist the public at reception areas to their destination.
• Direct building exit procedures in event of fire or evacuation order.
• Provide internal operational services such as pager issuance and information dissemination.
• Assist patients and the public with local travel arrangements to their destinations.
