Job summary

The Delores D. Echum Composite School (DDECS) invites applications for a Vice Principal to commence for the 2026-2027 school year. Located in Moose Factory, Ontario, this First Nations school serves 130+ students in Grades 7-12 and is on Moose Cree First Nation.

The role requires OCT certification, strong leadership experience in intermediate/secondary grades, and knowledge of First Nations education programs; salary up to 143,237 CAD with housing and Cree language allowance.

The Delores D. Echum Composite School (DDECS) invites applications from qualified Vice Principals to commence employment for the 2026-2027 school year. We are a First Nations school located in northern Ontario, in western James Bay, with an enrollment of 130+ students in Grades 7-12. The school is in Moose Cree First Nation on Moose Factory Island, with a population of over 3,000, and is accessible by boat during the open-water season and by ice road in the winter.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Principal Qualifications, Parts 1 & 2
  • Current registration and in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT)
  • Experience and qualifications in Intermediate and Secondary Grades
  • Qualifications in Special Education, and/or Reading/Writing, and/or Math are an asset
  • Knowledge of best practices in instructional strategies, assessment and evaluation
  • Knowledge of First Nations Intermediate/Secondary Education programs, policy, and initiatives
  • School leadership and supervisory experience required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent budgeting, financial planning, and resource management skills
  • Proven digital and technology skills
  • Ability to speak the Cree Language as asset
  • Dedication to school learning philosophy
REQUIREMENTS
  • Submit a copy of a current CPIC with Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Must have a valid class G driver's license
  • Must have CPR/First Aid Training or willingness to obtain
  • Submit copy of OCT qualifications and all other certifications
  • Submit a letter outlining applicants' philosophy and how it relates to the role of Vice Principal
  • A willingness to live in a remote community and participate as a member of the community
  • Knowledge and sensitivity to the history, culture, traditions, and aspirations of First Nations people and experience in working in a multicultural setting
Salary:

Up to $143,237 annually, based on OSSTF/QECO rating

Duration:

Permanent position pending probation period of 1 or 2 years depending on experience
