Principal, Deh Gah School
Fort Providence, Northwest Territories

Deh Gah School is a JK-12 school located in beautiful Fort Providence. Deh Gah School has approximately 120 students from JK-12. Our rigorous academic and cultural programs are complemented by a variety of athletic and after school programs including soccer, traditional games, basketball, fitness club, cooking club and archery club.

The Principal is required to provide leadership to staff and work with the District Education Authority. The incumbent is responsible for all administrative duties and reporting that are required by the Council and the Department of Education Culture and Employment.

Like all Principal positions in the DDEC, this is a term position. The length of the term is determined by the District Education Authority (1 to 5 years)

  • N.W.T. Professional Teaching Certificate (or be eligible for);
  • N.W.T. Principal Certification (or must have completed or be willing to complete the Education Leadership Program);
  • A minimum of five years experience teaching at various levels;
  • Demonstrated successful educational leadership experience;
  • Ability to successfully use technology including school-based applications for attendance and student demographics;
  • Experience in cross-cultural and multi-grade classrooms;
  • Experience in Inclusive Schooling leadership;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Superior administrative and organizational skills.

Additional education, including a master¿s degree in education, principal and other
additional leadership qualifications from other provinces and territories, and experience
teaching and leading with BC Curriculum are considered assets.

  • Priority 4: Indeterminate Teachers eligible for Transfer or Promotion and not included in Priorities 2 & 3;
  • Priority 5: Term teachers not included in Priorities 2 & 3;
  • Priority 6: NWT Resident Teachers not employed by the GNWT or included in Priorities 2 & 3;
  • Priority 7: Teachers who are not residents of the NWT and who are not included in Priorities.
