Job description

VCA California Veterinary Specialists in Ontario is the largest 24-hour Emergency and Specialty hospital in the Inland Empire. For over 10 years, we have provided exceptional veterinary services and patient care. We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Neurology team as an experienced Veterinary Assistant. You will support our Board Certified Neurologist as part of this department.

This is a full-time position, Monday through Thursday, with four 10-hour shifts.

Compensation: $28 - $32 per hour

Compensation is negotiable based on education, experience, and relevant credentials.

Ideal candidates will possess:

1. Strong critical thinking skills
2. Excellent client communication skills: obtaining histories, presenting treatment plans, reviewing discharge instructions and medications, and educating clients on complex disease processes
3. Strong patient restraint and handling skills
4. Ability to monitor and perform treatments for patients requiring intensive management, recognize significant changes, and notify the veterinarian
5. Experience monitoring patients under anesthesia
6. Proficiency in running in-house lab samples and handling submissions to outside laboratories
7. Experience with venipuncture and IV catheter placement
8. Familiarity with specialized equipment and a willingness to learn new skills
9. Experience with MRI studies is a plus
10. Assist the veterinarian with case management, including follow-ups, prescriptions, and medical records
