Job summary

Enbridge Gas is seeking a Utility Service Technician II to support the safe, reliable operation of our natural gas distribution system. You will work independently and with a field team to perform maintenance, inspections, and emergency responses across the region.

The role requires strong customer service, a valid driver’s licence, and at least five years in related utility work. This position is non-union and involves field travel with standard safety training and certifications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Five+ years of related utility service, gas distribution, or field maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver's licence with a safe driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and independently perform pipeline repairs, maintenance, valve work, meter services, construction inspections, and distribution station maintenance.
  • Respond to natural gas emergencies, including leak investigations, odor complaints, line breaks, and coordination with emergency responders.
  • Support project execution within and outside your home area to assist regional teams.
  • Mentor trainees and less experienced employees by sharing knowledge and providing coaching.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating complex maintenance and operational projects executed by field crews.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while building relationships with customers, contractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Promote safety excellence through damage prevention and adherence to standards and regulatory requirements.

As a Utility Service Technician II, you will play a key role in the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our natural gas distribution system. Working independently and as part of a highly skilled field team, you will perform a wide range of maintenance, repair, inspection, and emergency response activities that help ensure the continued delivery of safe and dependable natural gas service to our customers.

What You Will Do:

  • Safely and independently perform pipeline repairs, maintenance activities, valve work, meter services, construction inspections, and distribution station maintenance.


  • Respond to natural gas emergencies, including leak investigations, odor complaints, line breaks, and coordination with emergency response agencies and regulatory authorities.


  • Support project execution within and outside your home area to assist operational teams across the region.


  • Mentor trainees and less experienced employees by sharing technical knowledge and providing constructive coaching and feedback.


  • Assist in planning and coordinating complex maintenance and operational projects executed by field crews.


  • Deliver exceptional customer service while building positive relationships with customers, contractors, and external stakeholders.


  • Promote safety excellence through damage prevention awareness initiatives and adherence to company standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements.


Who You Are:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent.


  • Five or more years of directly related utility service, gas distribution, pipeline operations, or field maintenance experience.


  • Able to maintain all required TSSA licences and Operator Qualifications (OQs).


  • Strong interpersonal, customer service, and communication skills.


  • Valid driver's licence with a safe driving record and the ability to meet standby response requirements.


  • Basic computer skills and the ability to learn and use company software applications.


  • Physically capable of performing demanding field work while wearing required personal protective equipment.


Preferred:

  • Advanced technical expertise related to gas handling, pipeline maintenance, tapping and stopping, valve operations, commercial and industrial gas services, or specialized utility service activities.


  • GPI licence and G2/ GUT II qualifications preferred.


  • Experience serving as a subject matter resource, trainer, or system super user.


  • Demonstrated ability to lead field tasks, support project planning, and mentor developing employees.


  • You will undergo various background screenings that include but is not limited to 5-year driving record, criminal check and a company sponsored medical.


Working Conditions:

  • Safety-sensitive, safety-critical position requiring a strong commitment to safe work practices.


  • Frequent outdoor work in varying weather and seasonal conditions, with occasional work indoors and in vehicles.


  • Regular lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of equipment and materials, including loads between 10 kg and 20 kg.


  • Physical activities include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, digging, and operating hand and power tools.


  • Daily travel by vehicle across the service territory and participation in standby and shift schedules as required.


  • Required to wear company-provided uniforms and all applicable personal protective equipment.


Salary:

  • Ranges from $29.94 - $43.00 per hour CAD for Ontario locations based upon candidate’s experience, skills, and internal equity.


  • Applicable compensation policies and guidelines apply to internal candidates.
