Job summary

The District of Lake Country is seeking a permanent full-time Utility Labourer or Utility Operator based in Lake Country, BC. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining water distribution systems, pumps, valves, and treatment facilities, with a focus on safety and reliability.

Qualified applicants will have at least Grade 12, one year of water distribution experience, and a BC Class 5 Driver's Licence.

• Grade 12 education required.
• Minimum one year in water distribution and waterworks construction; municipal setting preferred.
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence required.
• For Operator: EOCP certification and Chlorine Handlers Certificate or eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Perform operation, maintenance, and repair of water supply and distribution systems.
• Operate pumps, valves, and treatment facilities as directed.
• Collaborate with District staff and other departments as needed.
• Ensure safety, compliance, and public communication when appropriate.

Job description

The District of Lake Country has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-timeUtility Labourer or Utility Operator (40 hours per week) based in Lake Country, BC.

Reporting to the Utilities Manager, the Utility Labourer or Utility Operator is responsible for performing utility operations relating to the safe and efficient operation of District Water Systems. Utility operations include construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of water supply and distribution systems, pump, pressure regulation, pressure release, air and/or vacuum valves, fire hydrants, treatment facilities, hydro plant, intake structures, dams, reservoirs, and appurtenances. The incumbent must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and requires a high degree of technical problem solving and good interpersonal and communication skills. Utility Labourers or Utility Operators may also perform other related duties working with other District departments as required.

More About You

To qualify for this role as a Utility Labourer, you must have a minimum of grade 12 education, a minimum of one year's experience in water distribution and waterworks construction, preferably in a municipal setting, and a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License.

To qualify for this role as aUtility Operator, you must haveone year towards a diploma in water engineering technologyor similar; aminimum of one year of experience in water distribution or waterworks construction, preferably in a local government utility setting;valid Water Operator EOCP certification;Chlorine Handlers Certificate (BCWAA) or qualifies to obtain; and a valid British Columbia Class 5 Driver's License.

About the Benefits

• The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position as a Utility Labourer will be $35.80 (2026 wage rate);
• The hourly rate of pay for this unionized position as a Utility Operator will be based on the level of qualifications in EOCP and years of experience but will start at $37.69 per hour (2026 wage rate);
