Job summary

Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is seeking a full-time Utility Operator to join the Utilities team. The role focuses on preventative and corrective maintenance of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, including pumps, valves, piping, hydrants, meters and treatment equipment.

Responsibilities include field maintenance, SCADA monitoring, sampling, and duties related to water and sewer repairs, construction, heavy equipment operation, and emergency response.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with relevant utilities experience.
• Diploma in Water Engineering Technology is an asset.
• EOCP certifications and related training are assets.

• Maintain, inspect, repair and operate municipal water, wastewater and related utility infrastructure.

Utility Operator

(Permanent Full-Time)

POSITION OVERVIEW

Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is seeking a full-time, permanent Utility Operator to join our Utilities team. Reporting to the Utilities Foreman and Utilities Manager, the Utility Operator is a hands‑on maintenance and operations position responsible for the maintenance, inspection, repair and operation of the Municipality’s water, wastewater, and related utility infrastructure.

The primary focus of this position is the preventative and corrective maintenance of municipal utility infrastructure and equipment. The successful candidate will inspect, troubleshoot, maintain and repair pumps, valves, piping, hydrants, meters, treatment equipment/instrumentation, and other utility infrastructure. The position also assists with water and sewer repairs, utility construction, excavation, heavy equipment operation and emergency response.

As a certified utility operator, the position also performs routine operation and monitoring of water and wastewater systems, including SCADA monitoring, sampling and testing, system inspections, process adjustments and maintaining required operational and regulatory records.

Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality is a vibrant year‑round, growing mountain tourism community boasting world class skiing, mountain biking, skating rink, hiking and golf and a core tourist village with some 850 hotel beds. Sun Peaks has a population of 1,500 year‑round residents, and hosts on average 3,000 to 5,000 daily winter visitors and 1,000 to 3,000 daily summer visitors. At a base elevation of 1,255m the unique European inspired walkable village is located 45 minutes from Kamloops in British Columbia’s interior. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Applicants should have a High School Diploma or equivalent and relevant experience in water, wastewater, municipal utilities, public works, mechanical maintenance, construction or a related field.

Consideration will also be given to applicants who demonstrate relevant education, experience, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to obtaining Level I certification. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence and demonstrated mechanical aptitude are required.

A diploma in Water Engineering Technology or a related field is considered an asset. Additional EOCP certifications, experience maintaining municipal water and wastewater systems, SCADA experience, pump and mechanical maintenance, heavy equipment operation, utility locating, gas utility experience, First Aid, Confined Space, WHMIS and other related training are also considered assets.

HOURS AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

• This is a permanent, full‑time position, working 40 hours per week.
• The position participates in scheduled on‑call coverage and may be required to work evenings, weekends and statutory holidays in response to operational requirements and emergencies.
• The Utility Operator works extensively in the field in all weather conditions.

COMPENSATION

Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality offers competitive compensation starting at $36.18 per hour (2026 wage rate), with a higher hourly rate available based on EOCP certification levels and relevant utility experience, along with opportunities for training, professional development and advancement of EOCP certification.
