Job summary

Holy Spirit Catholic School Division is seeking an Education Assistant for St. Paul School in Lethbridge. This temporary 28-hour-per-week position begins as soon as possible and runs until June 24, 2027, under CUPE 1825.

The role supports students with a range of needs under supervision. Requirements include Education Assistant Certificate or Diploma, Brain Story Certification a plus, First Aid, SIVA training, and experience with augmentative communication.

Qualifications

• Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent.
• Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness is a plus.
• One year of experience with students who have special programming needs.
• First Aid training is required.
• SIVA training and augmentative communication experience are assets.

EDUCATION ASSISTANT – St. Paul School

This position is open to all internal and external candidates. Prior to employment, successful applicants must provide supporting documents as outlined on our New Employees page.

We are looking to hire a temporary 28.0 hour per week Education Assistant to work at St. Paul School in Lethbridge. This assignment is to commence as soon as possible and terminate June 24, 2027. This position is covered by the CUPE 1825 Support Staff collective agreement. Please quote Posting #4073190 .

The Education Assistant provides support to children with a wide range of needs in the learning environment under the direction and supervision of the Inclusive Education Lead, the classroom teacher, and the principal.

The successful candidate must be able to meet the physical demands of the role in order to actively engage students in all aspects of their educational program. Confidentiality is of utmost importance in achieving the common good for all students. Through collaborative team-based structure, the Education Assistant will carry out tasks as assigned by both the daily and program supervisors.

EDUCATION

• Education Assistant Certificate and/or Diploma or Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate and/or Diploma or equivalent;
• Special consideration will be given to candidates who have completed the Brain Story Certification through Alberta Family Wellness.

WORK EXPERIENCE

• At least one-year experience working with students with special programming needs.

SPECIALIZED SKILLS

• First Aid training;
• Supporting Individuals through Valued Attachments Training (SIVA) Certificate is considered an asset;
• Training and experience with augmentative communication systems;
• Experience working on academic goals with students who have multiple barriers.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

• Understands that it is of paramount importance to maintain confidentiality of all aspects of the school community;
• Excellent communication skills;
• Willing to participate in new learning opportunities;
• Ability to take responsibility for individual student needs;
• Ability to contribute in a collaborative team-based learning structure.
