Job summary

SGI CANADA in Toronto is seeking an Underwriter for our Personal Auto team. You will review, evaluate and determine insurability for routine and minimally complex new and renewal auto applications.

You will examine risk, negotiate terms, rates and premiums with brokers, and support the processing of insurance policies to help protect customers and contribute to our growth.

Job description

We are looking for an Underwriter to join our Personal Auto team in Toronto.

In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing, evaluating and determining insurability for routine and minimally complex new and renewal applications for Coachman Insurance Company personal auto (non-standard insurance products. You will also examine the nature and degree of risk involved, negotiate conditions, rates and premiums with brokers and processes insurance policies.

• Have a solid understanding of insurance principles, underwriting practices, and applicable products.
• Understand premiums, coverages, deductibles, and billing practices for applicable products.
• Experience working with the Guidewire application system.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and sound decision‑making abilities.
• A relationship‑focused mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with brokers and internal teams.

These skills are typically acquired through a two-year diploma in a relevant field of study such as Business along with one to two years of experience in underwriting.
