About the role:
Under the supervision of the Director of Underwriting Operations, the underwriter will be part of a dynamic underwriting team. Their role is to accurately assess risks to make decision in line with the company's profitability and risk management objectives. This includes the analysis and interpretation of medical and non-medical information for life, critical illness and disability insurance.
The ideal candidate for this role should have a medical background or related experience or very good knowledge of the insurance industry. He should also demonstrate strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills and be able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team.
Main responsibilities:
Assess risk on individual life, critical illness, and disability applications to establish appropriate and competitive underwriting decisions.
Analyze medical and non-medical information to identify any potential risks and issues.
Take a holistic approach in the overall risk assessment.
Use underwriting guidelines and procedures to make informed decisions.
Ensure accuracy and timeliness in completing underwriting tasks and processes.
Communicate with internal and external stakeholders to obtain additional information or clarify issues related to underwriting decisions.
Skills and Qualifications:
2+ years of underwriting experience in the individual life sector.
Excellent skills in analyzing and problem-solving.
Customer focused with a continuous improvement mindset.
Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
Proficiency in analyzing cases, including medical reports, to accurately assess risk and make daily underwriting decisions.
Ability to negotiate, organize and multi-task.
Demonstrated ability to perform under high volume and tight deadlines, delivering consistently high-quality work
