Position Summary

Reporting to the Director of Mortgage Originations, the Underwriter is responsible for evaluating mortgage applications, analyzing documents thoroughly, and managing loans from application to completion.

Major Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the pipeline effectively to ensure timely receipt of documentation.
  • Assess up to 4 mortgage applications daily by reviewing broker documentation and recommending or approving applications based on the 5 C’s of credit: credit, capacity, capital, character, and collateral, within HTB guidelines.
  • Fulfill all conditions and communicate remaining requirements with brokers within SLA.
  • Provide excellent customer service with efficient turnaround times, maintaining positive relationships with brokers.
  • Collaborate with the Originations team to meet and exceed targets.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations including B20, AML, and KYC legislation.
Qualifications & Experience

Degrees, Diplomas & Certifications :

  • University degree or equivalent experience required.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 3 years underwriting experience in residential mortgage lending, preferably in Near Prime and Alt B segments.
  • Strong knowledge of residential mortgage review, regulatory legislation (B20, AML, KYC), and sound underwriting decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with mortgage brokers, including negotiation and sales abilities.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and underwriting / servicing platforms such as Delta 360.
  • Bilingual in French is an asset.
