UG Mobile Maintenance Supervisor
Position Description

The Underground Mobile Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of all underground mobile equipment, including drills, bolters, scoop trams, haul trucks, and support vehicles. This leadership role ensures that mobile fleet performance aligns with operational targets through safe, timely, and cost-effective maintenance practices. The Supervisor leads a team of tradespeople and works closely with operations, planning, and other departments to minimize equipment downtime and maximize fleet availability.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the underground mobile maintenance team, providing direction, supervision, and support to ensure safe and efficient completion of all work.
  • Plan, coordinate, and prioritize mobile equipment repairs and preventative maintenance based on production requirements and equipment condition.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations and participating in ongoing safety initiatives.
  • Collaborate with maintenance planners and the supply chain team to ensure the timely availability of required parts, tools, and materials.
  • Monitor equipment performance and condition, identifying trends, recurring issues, and areas for improvement.
  • Conduct regular field inspections and audits to verify quality of maintenance work and adherence to company standards.
  • Participate in or lead incident investigations, root cause analyses for equipment failures, and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead daily pre‑shift and toolbox meetings to communicate safety topics, work assignments, and operational updates.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of documentation, including work orders, inspection reports, and shift logs.
  • Coach and mentor tradespeople, support ongoing training, and help maintain a high‑performance maintenance team.
  • Coordinate with OEM vendors and contractors for specialized diagnostic support or complex equipment repairs.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of mobile maintenance strategies that improve reliability and reduce lifecycle costs.
  • Provide regular reports to management on equipment availability, maintenance KPIs, and workforce performance.
Qualifications
  • Journeyperson certification in Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanics (Certificate of Qualification – Red Seal or equivalent) is required.
  • Minimum 10 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience, with at least 3 years in an underground mining environment preferred.
  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Underground Common Core certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Strong technical understanding of underground mobile mining equipment and maintenance systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build high‑performing teams and drive accountability.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP, and maintenance planning tools is an asset.
  • Proven commitment to workplace safety and continuous improvement.
  • Physically fit and capable of working in confined spaces and varying underground conditions, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders, and performing physically demanding tasks.
  • Must be able to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with mine site safety protocols.

This is a residential position operating on a 7/7 rotation schedule, working 12‑hour day and night shifts. The successful candidate must reside within commuting distance of the mine site; a local travel allowance is provided.
