Job summary

XTL Transport Inc. in Airdrie, Alberta, is seeking a dynamic Truck & Trailer Technician to join our team. You will diagnose, repair and maintain trucks and trailers, test systems, and complete detailed inspection reports while working with apprentices and reporting to supervision.

We value safety, teamwork and customer service. The position requires CVIP certification, a valid Class 3 license, and the ability to work outdoors in all seasons with strong organizational and communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman, Heavy Equipment or Trailer Technician.
  • CVIP Certification is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean abstract, minimum Class 3.
  • Able to work independently or within a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with computers is considered an asset.
  • Comfortable working outside in all four seasons.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Able to repair a wide variety of equipment.
  • English: speak, read, write and follow directions.
  • Able to complete a task with physical effort; hand tools experience helpful.
  • Welding or fabrication experience is preferred.
  • On-call rotation and overtime flexibility may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnosis and conduct all major and minor Truck & Trailer repairs.
  • Inspect motors in operation and road test vehicles using diagnostic tools.
  • Adjust or replace parts of truck or trailer systems as needed.
  • Test repaired systems to manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance like oil changes.
  • Communicate work performed and future repair needs to Supervisor.
  • Keep a clean and safe work environment and mentor apprentices.

The Opportunity

XTL Transport Inc. is looking for a dynamic Truck & Trailer Technician to join our outstanding Airdrie team. Responsibilities
  • Diagnosis and conduct all major and minor Truck & Trailer repairs.
  • Inspect motors while in operation, road test motor vehicles and automotive system components using diagnostic testing devices to diagnose (computerized and manual).
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of truck or trailer systems.
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s performance specification.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes and lubrications.
  • Effectively communicate with Supervisor on work performed including general vehicle condition and future repair requirements.
  • Inspect and test mechanical units such as engines, transmissions, axles and brake systems to locate faults and malfunctions.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions and confirm findings with supervisor to determine repairs or replacement of unit.
  • Complete detailed inspection reports to record problems and work performed.
  • Work closely with apprentices as required.
  • Keep a clean and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as required.
Who we are looking for

  • Ability to be on call when necessary on a rotational schedule and the flexibility to work overtime when required.
