Municipality of North Cowichan is hiring a Truck Driver/Loader Operator (Class 1, air brakes) on a full-time basis. The role involves operating municipal trucks, loading and hauling materials, towing trailers, and performing tasks such as spreading gravel and asphalt.

The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 1 BC Driver's License with air endorsement, have a clean driving record, and be prepared for shifts and weekends. A medical certificate may be required.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12.
• Valid Class 1 BC Driver's License with air endorsement and clean abstract.
• At least 1 year of experience operating commercial trucks at Class 3 with air endorsement or higher.
• Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks with sanders and plows in winter conditions; shifts and weekends required.
• Ability to perform pre-/post-trip inspections and maintain written records.
• Capable of hauling 38,000 KG GVW with trucks/trailers and to operate loaders.

We are looking for an experienced Truck Driver/Loader Operator to perform a broad range of duties in a safe and efficient manner. The successful candidate will operate our municipal trucks, including loading and hauling various materials, towing a commercial trailer, spreading gravel and asphalt, and operating tanker/distributor or sweeper trucks. Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Abilities:

• Completion of Grade 12.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid Class 1 B.C. Driver's License with air endorsement; a satisfactory current driver's abstract will be required.
• One (1) year experience operating commercial trucks at a Class 3 with air endorsement level or higher.
• Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks equipped with sanders and plows under adverse weather conditions; shifts and weekends will be required.
• Ability to follow legal pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain written records, and follow prescribed routes.
• Ability to efficiently operate both truck and commercial trailer combinations of over 38,000 KG GVW.
• Ability to spread gravel and asphalt.
• Ability to operate loaders; and
• The position may be physically demanding and the candidate must be capable of driving for long periods of time and be able to successfully perform all duties associated with the position. A medical certificate attesting to suitability for this position may be required.
