Job summary

Municipality of North Cowichan is hiring a Truck Driver/Loader Operator (Class 1, air brakes) on a full-time basis. The role involves operating municipal trucks, loading and hauling materials, towing trailers, and performing tasks such as spreading gravel and asphalt.

The successful candidate must hold a valid Class 1 BC Driver's License with air endorsement, have a clean driving record, and be prepared for shifts and weekends. A medical certificate may be required.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12.
• Valid Class 1 BC Driver's License with air endorsement and clean abstract.
• At least 1 year of experience operating commercial trucks at Class 3 with air endorsement or higher.
• Ability to operate tandem and single axle trucks with sanders and plows in winter conditions; shifts and weekends required.
• Ability to perform pre-/post-trip inspections and maintain written records.
• Capable of hauling 38,000 KG GVW with trucks/trailers and to operate loaders.

Responsibilities

• Operate municipal trucks and load/haul various materials.
• Tow a commercial trailer and spread gravel and asphalt.
• Operate tanker/distributor or sweeper trucks as needed.
• Deployment to other duties may be required from time to time.
• Work in conditions that may demand long hours and physical endurance.
