Job summary

Mainroad Group in Nanaimo, BC, is seeking Highway Maintenance Worker (Seasonal/Casual) to support winter road operations from November 2026 to April 2027. The role requires operating sanding, plowing, and salting trucks, plus helping with snow and ice control across the Mid-Island area.

Successful candidates will need a valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brake Endorsement, strong teamwork and safety commitment, and the ability to adapt to day, night, weekend, and graveyard shifts

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence with Air Brake Endorsement.
• Construction or highway maintenance experience is an asset.
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn quickly.

Responsibilities

• Operate sanding, plowing and salting trucks during winter weather events.
• Assist with snow and ice control on highways and roadways.
• Operate and drive trucks to haul materials.
• Clear litter, debris and roadkill from roadways.
• Complete general highway maintenance activities as required.
• Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.

Description

We are looking for Highway Maintenance Driver/Labourers to join our Nanaimo team for the upcoming winter season, approximately November 2026 to April 2027. This is a seasonal/casual position.

Our Highway Maintenance Driver/Labourers play an important role in supporting winter road maintenance operations throughout the Mid-Island area. Successful candidates must be available to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, weekends and graveyard shifts, and may be required to work on-call during snow and winter weather events.

What you'll do:

• Operate sanding, plowing and salting trucks during winter weather events.
• Assist with snow and ice control on highways and roadways
• Operate and drive trucks to haul materials
• Clear litter, debris and roadkill from roadways
• Complete general highway maintenance activities as required
• Work outdoors in changing and sometimes challenging weather conditions

What you'll bring:

• Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence with Air Brake Endorsement
• Previous construction and/or highway maintenance experience is an asset
• Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn quickly
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
