Job summary

Marymound seeks an engaged Youth Care Practitioner to support the developmental needs of children and youth. You will assess client and program needs, design and implement care plans, and work within a multidisciplinary team including clinicians, social workers, psychologists, and educators.

The role emphasizes trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and ongoing training in NVCI and ASIST, with a focus on safe, culturally aware, and family-inclusive programming.

Qualifications

  • Certificate/diploma in Child & Youth Care, or applicable post-secondary education (i.e. social work, psychology, counselling) is preferred.
  • Experience providing physical, psychological, and social support to at-risk youth or other vulnerable populations is preferred.
  • Must be familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social and recreational needs of children and youth.
  • Experience working from a trauma-informed perspective is preferred.
  • Knowledge of addictions, harm reduction strategies, and/or sexual exploitation would be considered an asset.
  • Valid First Aid/CPR is required.
  • MUST have mental health/crisis training certifications and NVCI, as well as ASIST, as bona fide occupational requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the optimal growth and development of each child or young person to reach their full potential.
  • Implements planned activities, coordinated treatment interventions, structured environments, and organized recreational and social activities.
  • Develops awareness of each child’s needs and actively promotes these in care planning.
  • Encourages family-focused and culture-valuing support structures and programming.
  • Helps youth identify personal strengths to promote growth, self-worth and belonging.
  • Maintains safe living environments meeting licensing standards and duties such as meals and cleaning.
  • Observes, evaluates, and records daily events to ensure continuity in treatment planning.
  • Engages in behaviour management and crisis intervention following Marymound policies; training provided (NVCI/ASIST).
  • Administers medication following strict protocols and documentation.
  • Active participation in fire and disaster safety duties.
