Job summary

Stella’s Circle is seeking a relief Housing Support Worker to assist residents in a 15-unit transitional housing setting for women and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced homelessness or gender-based violence. You’ll provide trauma-informed, harm-reduction support to sustain housing, support intakes, and coordinate with the Program Lead to ensure smooth daily operations.

Qualifications

• Completion of post-secondary education, preferably in human services.
• Experience with women and gender-diverse individuals who have experienced the criminal justice system, homelessness, and/or violence.
• Direct community work or volunteer experience in a residential setting considered an asset.
• Knowledge of homelessness, mental health, substance use challenges, gender diversity, trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches.
• Experience with conflict resolution and crisis intervention.
• Demonstrated professionalism, sound boundaries, and adherence to confidentiality.
• Strong time management, organization, and written/verbal communication skills.
• Awareness of relevant community resources and a commitment to ongoing learning.
• Standard First Aid and ASIST certification required.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
• Reliability Status with Public Services and Procurement Canada required.

Responsibilities

• Works collaboratively with residents to support tenancy, prevent eviction and assist with transitions.
• Supports resident intake, orientation, and moving processes.
• Builds trusting, respectful relationships with residents using trauma-informed and harm-reduction approaches.
• Intervenes during times of crisis and supports residents’ wellness plans.
• Facilitates conflict resolution and supports residents with accountability.
• Assists residents in preparing for transition to longer-term housing options.
• Maintains strong communication with staff, regularly sharing relevant information across roles to support continuity of care and operations.
• Responds to day-to-day issues as they arise, including resident concerns, conflicts, or building needs, and escalates concerns to the Program Lead as needed.
• Completes required documentation, data collection, and housing-related records in a timely and accurate manner.
• Engages with residents and the team to problem solve and make decisions collaboratively.
• Maintains awareness of the overall “pulse” of the building and communicates emerging issues to the Program Lead and staff team when needed.
• Supports the overall function of the building by ensuring the cleanliness of shared spaces (e.g., dishes, garbage, general upkeep).
• Reports maintenance needs and promotes shared responsibility for common areas.
• Supports consistent practice aligned with program and organizational values, policies, and procedures.
• Actively participates in staff meetings and development opportunities.
• Supports a safe, welcoming, respectful, and community-oriented environment.
