Job summary

Alberta Precision Laboratories (APL) is seeking a casual Driver to support laboratory operations in Grande Prairie. The role involves delivering and picking up mail, specimens, lab supplies, and equipment, while maintaining sample integrity and complying with safety rules.

Responsibilities include timely deliveries, vehicle and cooler maintenance, proper documentation, and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator's Licence.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a commercial driver and/or previous courier role is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and pick up mail, specimens, lab supplies, mail, and blood products to and from Rapid Response Labs, Patient Care Centres, and client offices in Grande Prairie.
• Maintain integrity of cargo and proper documentation of deliveries; follow established protocols and regulations.
• Perform vehicle and cooler/transport box maintenance; adhere to safe driving regulations.

Every specimen you transport contributes to someone’s diagnosis and treatment.This is a physically demanding role where you will be required to lift up to 50lbs and transport important medical specimens and equipment to ensure public health and safety. Your contribution helps the lab staff provide early detection of diseases and the monitoring of health trends in the communities. You interact daily with laboratory staff, healthcare workers, and clients, where these connections can lead to a strong sense of community and teamwork in this critical healthcare environment.You will be responsible for following established protocols to maintain the integrity of samples, properly documenting deliveries, and adhering to all regulatory requirements. Please note that the is a causal position meaning there is no set schedule. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, APL currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.

Description:

As a Transportation Service Representative, your role will be to deliver and pick up a range of products including, but not limited to, mail, specimens, lab supplies, mail, and blood products to and from Rapid Response Labs, Patient Care Centres, and client offices in a timely manner and according to an established routine, in accordance with APL standards, regulations and policies. Working independently, you must use appropriate storage methods to maintain integrity of cargo. You must adhere to all safe driving regulations and vehicle maintenance procedures. Maintenance of vehicles as well as coolers and transport boxes is also involved.
