Job summary

Alberta Precision Laboratories’ Mobile Collections team is seeking independent, skilled, and experienced Medical Laboratory Assistants (MLAs) to support our mobile service areas. As a Mobile MLA, you will deliver high‑quality collection services to patients in long‑term care facilities and private residences, helping ensure timely and reliable laboratory results for some of Alberta’s most vulnerable populations.

This role requires frequent lifting of up to 10 lbs.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy experience required.
  • ECG certification required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and acceptable driver’s abstract.
  • Experience recognizing patients in distress and providing appropriate assistance.
  • Experience with laboratory data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory.
  • Procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens.
  • Perform procedures and report results.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Previous phlebotomy experience and ECG certification required. Valid Class 5 driver’s license and a driver’s abstract acceptable to APL. Experience recognizing patients in distress and providing appropriate assistance. Experience with laboratory data entry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of recent phlebotomy experience. ECG experience. Previous experience working in a Mobile Collections environment. Experience working with Connect Care and Mobile Collections Information System (MCIS). Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, troubleshooting, and decision‑making skills. Strong commitment to professionalism and maintaining confidentiality. Training or courses in leadership, customer service, or change management.
