The Transportation & Logistics Manager is responsible for managing cross-border logistics, fleet performance, compliance with regional regulations, and vendor relationships in multiple countries, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective transportation, across all regions.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily transportation operations across North America and Europe.
- Develop and implement optimized route planning and load management strategies.
- Ensure seamless coordination of shipments between Canada, the U.S., and Poland, including cross-docking and customs clearance.
- Monitor and manage fleet performance across all regions.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations in Canada (MTO, CVOR), the U.S. (FMCSA, DOT), and EU/Poland (EU transport laws, road freight requirements).
- Maintain proper documentation for international shipments, customs, and export/import compliance.
- Lead and mentor regional logistics teams across all three countries.
- Coordinate training on safety, compliance, and operational best practices.
- Establish KPIs and performance metrics for logistics staff and third-party carriers.
- Negotiate and manage contracts with domestic and international carriers, customs brokers, and 3PL providers.
- Evaluate carrier performance and resolve service issues promptly.
- Drive cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining service quality.
- Identify and implement logistics best practices across regions.
Cross-Border & Customs Operations:
- Oversee and ensure smooth customs clearance processes for imports and exports between Canada, the U.S., and Poland.
- Work closely with customs brokers and government agencies to ensure adherence to trade compliance laws (e.g., USMCA/CUSMA, EU trade agreements).
- Maintain and audit all international shipping documentation and records to ensure compliance.
- Identify and mitigate risks related to transportation delays, legal compliance, vehicle safety, and driver health.
- Ensure transportation safety standards are implemented and consistently followed in accordance with MTO (Canada), FMCSA (U.S.), and EU transport regulations.
- Lead accident investigations and implement corrective/preventative actions when needed.
Customer Service & SLA Management:
- Maintain high service levels with internal and external customers through efficient transportation processes.
- Monitor on-time delivery rates and service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure client satisfaction.
- Serve as the escalation point for critical transportation issues that affect customer commitments.
Procurement & Network Optimization:
- Evaluate and procure transportation providers across ground, air, and ocean freight.
- Continually assess transportation networks for potential consolidation, rerouting, or outsourcing opportunities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with strategic partners in each region.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in transportation/logistics management, including cross-border and international operations.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations in Canada, the U.S., and EU/Poland.
- Strong experience with customs procedures, import/export compliance, and Incoterms.
- Proven ability to lead distributed teams and manage operations across multiple time zones.
- Proficiency in TMS, ERP systems, and fleet tracking platforms.
- Knowledge of NAFTA/USMCA and European Union transportation policies.
- Experience with intermodal logistics and freight forwarding.
- Familiarity with sustainability and green logistics initiatives.
- PMP or APICS/CSCP certification is an asset.
