Primary Responsibilities

The primary role of the Supply Chain - Transportation Cost Specialist is to support the Company’s strategic initiatives to reduce costs and improve services for inbound transportation. The incumbent is responsible for negotiating, maintaining, and improving inbound transportation costs for all FOB and EX Works Suppliers. They will also maintain the system with accurate costing to ensure efficient invoice processing. All actions should align with Tree of Life Canada's Mission, Vision, and Values.

Essential Functions

  • Support and participate in food safety programs including SQF (Safe Quality Food).
  • Negotiate OTR, Ocean Freight, and Drayage Freight contracts with carriers, shipping lines, and freight forwarders.
  • Create annual tenders and invite bids from shipping lines and freight forwarders.
  • Compare, confirm, and maintain contract pricing for all freight lanes and routes diligently and accurately.
  • Develop and maintain a tracking dashboard, including reporting and a historical data database.
  • Manage and update inbound shipping tracking reports to provide management with insights on D&D, storage-related costs, and freight cost development.
  • Build, develop, and maintain good working relationships with logistics partners.
  • Work closely with supply planners to provide logistical support.
  • Maintain good attendance, follow safe work practices, and safeguard confidential company information.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as requested.

Minimum Requirements, Qualifications, and Skills

  • College diploma with at least five (5) years of related experience and fundamental knowledge of transportation and logistics.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with ocean freight and 3 years with trucking companies.
  • CITT designation is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel (medium to advanced level) and working knowledge of Power BI.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.
  • Experience with TMS is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of cross-border paperwork and customs requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and customer focus.
  • Analytical, results-oriented, self-directed, with excellent negotiation and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to resolve conflicts and problem-solve.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
