Translator

The Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation is seeking the services of an individual to serve as Translator.This is a unionized position.

The Translator is responsible for the translation of internal documents developed in English into French in accordance with the OSSTF / FEESO style guide and industry standards. This position will report directly to the Associate General Secretary, Professional Services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

• Translate documents from English to French and occasionally from French to English
• Conduct terminology research and maintain the terminology database.
• Keep up with organizational and industry policies and procedures.
• Assist from time to time with special projects.
• Performs other appropriate duties related to translation, or as may be assigned from time to time.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in translation.
• Minimum of four (4) years job experience as a translator
• Bilingualism (English & French) verbal and written communication skills are required.
• Strong written communication skills in both French and English.
• Excellent proofreading abilities with a thorough knowledge of French grammar and punctuation.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Advanced knowledge of office automation tools such as MS Office Suite.
• Knowledge of OSSTF / FEESO’s business operations would be considered an asset.

SALARY, BENEFITS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

• In accordance with the COPE Local 343 Collective Agreement, the weekly starting salary for a Translator is $1,140 plus an additional $50 per week bilingual allowance.Please refer to the collective agreement for working conditions and benefits.
• May be required to work outside of business hours on occasion, as needed.
