Overview

Friends of Ruby is dedicated to supporting the well-being of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth aged 16-29 through mental health services, social programs, and housing. We operate a Youth Centre, offering barrier-free counselling, hot meals, and community programming, and a Transitional Home providing emergency and long-term housing with life-skills support.

If you are passionate about creating safe, inclusive spaces for marginalized youth, this is your chance to make an impact as a Transitional Home Food Service Volunteer!

About the Role

As a Transitional Home Food Service Volunteer, you will be responsible for:

  • Receiving and organizing food delivery: Unload food from delivery truck into the kitchen; organize and shelf the delivered food in the kitchen.
  • Food program support: Assisting with planning meal programs; preparing food for meal programs.
  • Support monthly community meals: Assist the Food Service Coordinator on the last Thursday of every month; create a safe and welcoming environment; organize the kitchen; serve the residents delicious home cooked meals.
What You Bring

Qualifications:

  • Valid Food Handler certificate.
  • Comfortable lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong organizational and spatial planning skills.
  • Commitment to social justice, anti-racism, anti-oppression, housing first approach, harm reduction approach, and trauma-informed care.

Assets:

  • Identifies as 2SLGBTQIA+.
  • Food handling and preparation experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in the sector.
