Job summary

The City of Kelowna is looking for a Transit Planning Coordinator to join our team at Ellis Place. The role focuses on developing and supporting transit strategies, coordinating with BC Transit and the Operator to improve customer service, safety, and service delivery.

The successful candidate will handle route planning input, asset management, and capital plans, while supervising contractors and City staff as needed. A Diploma in a related field and relevant experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Business, Planning, Transportation or related field.
  • Relevant work experience in transit/planning or related area.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence is preferred.
  • Ability to provide professional, responsive and high-quality support.
  • Strong conflict resolution and customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient with standard computer software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support strategies while implementing transit plans to improve customer service.
  • Monitor service delivery; liaise with BC Transit and Operator on operations and safety.
  • Use transit tech (AVL/APC) to maximize service quality.
  • Provide input for route design, asset management, and capital plans.
  • Manage and respond to customer feedback in collaboration with partners.
  • Lead development and delivery of marketing plans and tactics.
  • Oversee safety contracts and incident management.

  • The candidate will be responsible for developing and supporting strategies while implementing plans and initiatives to continuously improve transit customer service.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring transit service delivery and liaising with BC Transit and the Operator on customer service, traffic management, safety, security, and compliance with operating policies and procedures.
  • The candidate will be responsible for using technological tools, including bus monitoring systems (AVL and APC), to maximize transit service quality.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing and coordinating input for route operational design, planning, asset management, and capital plans and projects.
  • The candidate will be responsible for managing customer service complaints and feedback in collaboration with BC Transit and the Operator.
  • The candidate will be responsible for leading and contributing to the development and delivery of marketing plans, strategies, and tactics.
  • The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and responding to safety and security contracts, incidents, and protocols.
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing research, input, and support to departments and external stakeholders on transit and the integration of the transit system with the broader community transportation system.
  • The candidate will be responsible for advising on and coordinating transit activities related to City and regional Active Transportation, Traffic Demand Management (TDM), and Air Quality plans, actions, and initiatives.
  • The candidate will be responsible for overseeing and, when required, supervising contractors and City staff involved in transit operations.
  • The candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating capital asset programs and systems for the maintenance, repair, and installation of new transit shelters, benches, and other transit amenities.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating Transportation Network companies, shared mobility programs, and vanpooling initiatives.
  • The candidate will be responsible for coordinating multi-modal integration between transit and other transportation modes.
Job Requirements
  • The candidate must possess a Diploma in Business, Planning, Transportation, or a related field.
  • The candidate will be required to possess relevant work experience in a related field.
  • The candidate must hold a valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • The candidate must demonstrate service excellence by providing professional, responsive, and high-quality support.
  • The candidate must demonstrate effective conflict resolution skills to address issues in a fair and professional manner.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong project management skills to plan, coordinate, and complete assigned projects.
  • The candidate must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate information and develop effective solutions.
