Job summary

Amrize North America Inc. in Coquitlam, BC, is seeking a safety-focused Terminal Operator / Maintenance Lead to join our site. You will handle loading/unloading liquid asphalt cement, operate loaders, and maintain plant equipment while upholding strict safety standards.

You’ll contribute to continuous improvement, standardize procedures, and mentor teammates in health, safety and environmental policies, with opportunities for specialised training and certification as you grow.

Qualifications

  • Direct prior experience as a Terminal Operator or Heavy Equipment Operator in industrial/bulk liquid handling environments.
  • Strong safety standards and ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to take initiative and contribute to continuous improvement and site procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Safely load, unload, and handle liquid asphalt cement, emulsions, and bulk materials per SJPs.
  • Operate heavy equipment including loaders for bulk material handling and salt bagging.
  • Monitor storage, temperatures, fluid levels, and transfer systems to prevent contamination or downtime.
  • Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, valves, piping and motors.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues to maximize uptime.
  • Standardize site procedures, housekeeping, and maintenance logs.
  • Act as site champion for health, safety regulations and environmental compliance.
  • Promote a culture of safety and communicate health, safety, and environmental policies.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a safety-focused, experienced Terminal Operator / Maintenance Lead to join our team. This role is built for a versatile industrial professional who brings strong operational safety standards and a continuous improvement mindset to the site. While you will be responsible for daily terminal operations—including loading/unloading liquid asphalt cement, operating salt loaders and equipment, and managing emulsions—you will also take hands-on ownership of plant equipment maintenance. WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Safely handle, load, and offload liquid asphalt cement, emulsions, and bulk materials in accordance with Amrize Safe Job Procedures.
  • Operate heavy equipment, including loaders, for bulk material handling and salt bagging operations.
  • Monitor product storage, temperatures, fluid levels, and transfer systems to prevent contamination or downtime.
  • Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, pumps, valves, piping, and motors
  • Troubleshoot mechanical or operational issues to maximize uptime
  • Drive operational excellence by helping to standardize site procedures, housekeeping, and maintenance logs.
  • Serve as a site champion for occupational health and safety regulations, safe job procedures (SJPs), and environmental compliance.
  • Bring a continuous improvement mindset to daily work - identifying safety or efficiency improvements and helping raise overall plant standards.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Required Training/Certifications: Driver’s License: Commercial Driver’s License (Class 1, Class 3, or Class 5 with Air Brake endorsement).Occupational First Aid (OFA Level 1 or Level 2 / Basic First Aid). Fall Arrest, Confined Space Entry/Monitor, and H2S Alive certifications. Heavy Equipment Operator endorsements/certifications and hands-on experience using SiteDocs for safety reporting. (An asset) Required

Work Experience:Direct prior experience as a Terminal Operator or Heavy Equipment Operator in an industrial, aggregate, asphalt, or bulk liquid handling environment. (Note: Candidates without relevant industrial or operator experience will not be considered.)Additional Requirements:

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Strong hands-on mechanical skills to handle plant maintenance responsibilities independently.
  • Physical & Technical Readiness: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, perform physical tasks, and operate heavy machinery safely.
  • Work Ethic/Mindset: Highly motivated, reliable, and committed to continuous improvement and high operational standards
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
