Job summary

SOAR Community Services in Brantford, ON is seeking a temporary Full-Time Support Counsellor – Nights at Peter Willis Residence. The role is part of our Justice Services program, helping federally sentenced men transition to the community through individual counselling, group programs, and employment supports.

You will work night shifts, assist with established Support Plans, monitor medications, mediate disputes, and support clients’ social skills while performing administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Human/Social Services is required.
• At least 1 year of placement or paid experience in a therapeutic/correctional setting or with justice-involved individuals.
• Be able to obtain Reliability Status.
• Proficient in MS Office and familiar with databases.

Responsibilities

• Assist with established Support Plans and help clients develop social skills.

• Assist in conducting irregular urinalysis and breathalyzer testing.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Temporary Full Time Support Counsellor – Nights, Peter Willis Residence. This role is a vital part of our Justice Services program, assisting federally sentenced men to transition to the community by offering individual counselling, group programs, and employment services, as well as providing clients with the skills and supports they need to achieve a productive, pro-social lifestyle.

What You’ll Do

• Assist with established Support Plans and help clients develop the skills and resources they need to enhance their social functioning
• Monitor, distribute and document medication
• Intervene and mediate client disputes
• Assist in conducting irregular urinalysis and breathalyzer testing
• Varied administrative tasks
• Varied cleaning tasks

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

• Have a college diploma in the Human/Social Services field
• Have a minimum of 1 year combined student placement and/or paid experience working in a therapeutic and/or correctional residential setting or with individuals involved in the justice system
• Be able to be granted Reliability Status
• Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
• Access to reliable transportation, as some travel may be required
• Ability to manage exposure to vicarious traumatic stress
