Job summary

SOAR Community Services is seeking a Full-Time Support Counsellor for nights at the Peter Willis Residence in Brantford. The role supports federally sentenced men through individual counselling, group programs, and employment services within the Justice Services program.

You will help clients achieve pro-social living, contribute to treatment plans, and participate in related administrative tasks in a community-based setting.

Qualifications

  • College diploma in Human/Social Services or equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1 year combined student placement and/or paid experience in a therapeutic/correctional residential setting or with justice-involved individuals.
  • Reliability Status required.
  • Proficient in MS Office and familiar with databases.
  • Access to reliable transportation; some travel may be required.
  • Ability to manage exposure to vicarious traumatic stress.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with established Support Plans and help clients develop social functioning skills.
  • Monitor, distribute and document medication.
  • Intervene and mediate client disputes.
  • Assist in conducting irregular urinalysis and breathalyzer testing.
  • Perform varied administrative tasks.
  • Perform varied cleaning tasks.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting for a Full Time Support Counsellor – Nights, Peter Willis Residence. This role is a vital part of our Justice Services program, assisting federally sentenced men to transition to the community by offering individual counselling, group programs, and employment services, as well as providing clients with the skills and supports they need to achieve a productive, pro-social lifestyle.

What You’ll Bring
  • Have a college diploma in the Human/Social Services field
  • Have a minimum of 1 year combined student placement and/or paid experience working in a therapeutic and/or correctional residential setting or with individuals involved in the justice system
  • Be able to be granted Reliability Status
  • Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
  • Access to reliable transportation, as some travel may be required
  • Ability to manage exposure to vicarious traumatic stress
