Job summary

Medicine Hat Public School Division seeks a temporary full-time HUG Success Coach for an Elementary School Program in Mental Health Capacity Building. The role covers a leave and runs about three months, with hours 8:30 AM–4:30 PM, Monday to Friday.

Salary ranges from $42,230 to $51,294, determined by experience. Must have a health/social sciences diploma asset, CPR/First Aid, and a valid Class 5 license. Position requires public speaking and collaboration across schools.

Qualifications

  • A Diploma in related health or social sciences is an asset.
  • Knowledge of addiction and mental health services is preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle are required.
  • First Aid, CPR, Assist Training and background checks are required.
  • Excellent organizational, teamwork, time management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver universal mental health programming for classroom and community.
  • Work with elementary students (ages 4–12) in various settings.
  • Present programming and train staff and families.
  • Coordinate across multiple schools and community partners.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends for events.
  • Utilize technology and Google tools for outreach.

Mental Health Capacity Building Programs

Medicine Hat Public School Division HUG Success Coach Elementary School Program Mental Health Capacity Building Programs

This is a temporary position intended to provide coverage for an employee currently on leave. The assignment is expected to be approximately three months, but may be shorter or longer depending on operational needs and the employee's return-to-work status.

Temporary Full-Time (covering a leave)
Details Of Position
  • Temporary full-time position working 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. (with flexibility to work outside of these hours as required)
  • $42,230 - $51,294 (starting place on the grid will be determined by experience)
Responsibilities
  • Experience with delivering programming and comfortable with public speaking
  • Experience working with Elementary School students
  • Familiar with the developmental, educational, emotional, social, and recreational needs of children, youth, and families
  • The ability to work in multiple schools.
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular working hours, including evenings and weekends for events
  • Takes initiative and is able to work independently as well as work in team settings
  • Develop and implement universal mental health programming for classroom and community implementation
  • Knowledge regarding community resources that will meet or enhance the person served
  • Ability to work during the summer and actively participate in recreational and leisure activities with students and their families
Education and Qualifications
  • A Diploma in related health or social sciences will be considered an asset
  • Knowledgeable about addiction and Mental Health service
  • A reliable vehicle in good repair and valid class 5 driver's license
  • Current First Aid and CPR
  • Current Assist Training
  • Current Criminal Record Check (with Vulnerable Sector) & Child Intervention Check
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong teamwork skills, the ability to prioritize multiple demands, excellent interpersonal skills, time management, flexibility and initiative
Experience
  • Minimum two years of experience in addiction and mental health or a health/human service-related role
  • Experienced working with elementary students age 4-12 in large and small group settings
  • Comfortable with public speaking, with the ability to deliver presentations and programming to both large and small groups
  • Able to work well with a team and work with community agencies
  • Competent in the use of technology (including Google email and internet navigation)

Salary commensurate with education and experience. Successful applicants work 12 months a year.
