Qualifications

• 5–10 years of recent experience as a Learning Support Teacher.
• Extensive knowledge of modification and adaptation strategies for varying student needs.
• Strong time management, record keeping, and collaborative communication.
• Advocacy for students with special needs and diverse learning styles.
• Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate IEPs in consultation with stakeholders.

The Successful Candidate For This Position Must Have

• A Diploma or Degree in Special Education, with coursework in the following areas: Reading Disabilities, Math Remediation, Exceptional Children, Behavior Interventions, and Assessment and Evaluation with training to use Level B assessment tools.
• 5-10 years of recent experience as a Learning Support Teacher.
• Extensive knowledge and practice in modification and adaptation strategies for various levels of student performance and in designing remediation techniques for students with learning difficulties.
• Demonstrated skills in time management and record keeping; interpersonal, verbal, and written communication; conflict resolution; and collaboration.
• Demonstrated philosophy that supports integration and inclusion for students with special needs.
• Demonstrated ability to advocate for students with special needs and students with different learning styles.
• Ability to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students, district personnel and community professionals.
• An understanding of computer technology, especially as it relates to students with special needs.
• An understanding of assessment for learning and its applications in designing differentiated instructional strategies for use in classrooms and other learning situations.
• Demonstrated leadership in working as a team member with students, staff, and parents.
• Demonstrated experience and strong knowledge of current research and practice in meeting the learning needs of students with social, behavioral, communication, sensory and learning difficulties, such as students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, and autism spectrum disorders.
• Ability to implement social skills training programs, such as the effective use of social stories.
• Experience creating/supporting functional curriculum.
• Valid BC Driver's License and appropriate means of transportation.

The starting full‑time salary for these teaching positions range from $63,670 to $116,190. Placement on a salary scale is subject to verification of experience and certification and will be done in accordance with the current collective agreement.
