Job summary

Del Van Gorder School in Faro, Yukon seeks a Temporary Primary Teacher to join our learning community. This 1.0 FTE role starts August 20, 2026 and ends June 4, 2026, with responsibilities across early learning to primary classrooms in a northern community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Bachelor of Education or equivalent;
• Teaching experience or pre-service teacher placement(s) at the kindergarten/early childhood level, in classrooms with a wide range of abilities and learning styles;
• Experience and/or training in the use of current, research-based practices for play based education,
• Experience differentiating and adapting teaching, learning and assessment in classrooms with a wide range of developmental levels;
• Additional training in Early Learning Programming or a specialization in primary/junior education;
• Experience working in a shared learning environment with other educators would be an asset;
• Experience and/or knowledge in Special Education, self-regulation, restorative practices, and trauma-informed care would be an asset;

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

• A knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of the First Nations people of Yukon and a culturally diverse student population;
• Strong ability to engage students in learning through experiential and play-based activities;
• Solid planning and organizational skills to create a framework for learning and development;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work positively and collaboratively with students, staff and the school community;
• Ability to work and contribute as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program
• Willingness to live, work and participate as an active member of a small, northern community.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
• Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process here
