Job summary

Canadian North is seeking a skilled Aircraft Sheet Metal Technician to perform repairs and fabricate components for the aircraft fleet. You will follow manuals, task cards, and procedures, receiving guidance from ACA-certified engineers and supervisors as needed.

The role requires a high school diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience, with travel willingness and a valid driver's license. Overtime opportunities and comprehensive benefits are available under the GAFAE Collective Agreement.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and completion of an approved training program.
• At least 2 years of previous experience.
• Willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.
• RAIC eligibility may be required under Transport Canada regulations.

Responsibilities

• Install, repair, and replace sheet metal components of aircraft and assemblies.
• Perform complex structural repairs and fabricate replacement parts as needed.
• Follow blueprints, schematics, and procedures with safe, accurate execution.
• Document all work as per procedures and update work cards accordingly.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to safety regulations.
• Assist shop group activities and report to Supervisor/Manager for approvals.

Job description

Compensation: $24.44 – $36.27 per hour, with opportunities to earn and bank overtime in accordance with the GAFAE Collective Agreement. Starting salary will be determined based on internal equity and the successful candidate’s qualifications, skills, and relevant experience.

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:0 am to 3:30pm

Reporting to: Senior Manager, Heavy Maintenance West

About the Opportunity

Perform work on Aircraft and Components as outlined in all applicable manuals, task cards, work sheets, special processes, and procedures. Be able to carry out repairs as per the S.R.M., while receiving instructions from the ACA or Supervisor.

What You'll Do

• Install, repair, and replace the sheet metal components of an aircraft, including various structural assemblies and sub-assemblies.
• Perform complex structural repairs to keep aircraft up to specifications and fabricate replacement parts for aircraft as needed.
• Perform sheet metal activities on various aircraft and projects with accuracy and precision
• Ability to safely use machinery and tools involved in sheet metal work.
• Ability to follow directions, read blueprints and schematics to understand product assignment.
• Responsible for having their assignment approved by the applicable Supervisor or Manager for their work;
• Assist activities carried out by the shop group;
• Responsible to be familiar with all procedures necessary to follow for the maintenance or repairs to the aircraft and equipment;
• Ensure all work carried out is properly documented in accordance with the procedures manual;
• Ensure that all items of work are listed recorded and signed out on the appropriate work cards;
• Perform work procedures, while ensuring that approved methods and materials are used in a safe, efficient and economical manner;
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all safety regulations at all times;
• Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

• Most possess a High School diploma and be a graduate from an approved training program;
• Two (2) years of previous experience;
• Experience on ATR 42 and Boeing 737 considered an asset;
• Must be willing to travel;
• Must hold valid driver's license;
• Must have excellent organizational skills;
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task and meet deadlines;
• Must possess superior interpersonal and communication skills for internal and external customers;
• Ability to obtain and retain a Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC) in accordance with the Airport Restricted Area Access Clearance Program regulated by Transport Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on ATR 42 and Boeing 737 considered an asset;
• Ability to communicate in Inuktitut.
