Job summary

Frima Studio is seeking a Technical UI Designer to join the UI/UX team on a major project. You will design and integrate complex UI systems within Unreal Engine, collaborating with designers, artists, and programmers to ensure cross‑platform performance.

You will create and optimize shaders and materials for visual effects, while helping to evolve UI tools and workflows across the studio. Strong EN/FR communication is required; international travel may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, UX/UI Design, Digital Arts, or related field with equivalent experience.
  • Approximately five years of UI design experience for video games.
  • Excellent command of Unreal UMG and Blueprints; Slate is a plus.
  • Experience with Unreal animation systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and integrate complex UI systems in Unreal Engine (UMG/Slate).
  • Create and optimize custom shaders and materials for advanced effects.
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, and programmers to solve cross‑platform UI challenges.
  • Debug, profile, and optimize UI for PC, consoles, and other platforms.
  • Develop the UI development pipeline in Unreal Engine with the tech leadership team.
  • Contribute to evolution of UI tools, templates, and workflows across the studio.

Job Description
  • Design and integrate complex UI systems directly in Unreal Engine (UMG/Slate);
  • Create and optimize custom shaders and materials for advanced visual effects;
  • Collaborate with designers, artists, and programmers to solve cross-platform integration challenges;
  • Debug, profile, and optimize UI systems to ensure smooth performance across PC, consoles, and other platforms;
  • Develop the UI development pipeline in Unreal Engine in collaboration with the technology leadership team;
  • Participate in project retrospectives to improve future UI processes;
  • Contribute to the evolution of UI tools, templates, and workflows used across the studio.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, UX/UI Design, Digital Arts, or another related field, combined with equivalent relevant experience;
  • Approximately five (5) years of experience in UI design for video games;
  • Excellent command of Unreal UMG and Blueprints (Slate is considered an asset);
  • Experience with Unreal animation systems is considered an asset;
  • Advanced skills in shader and material creation;
  • Good understanding of UX and interaction design principles;
  • Strong interest in complex technical challenges and optimization;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both French and English;
  • Availability to travel internationally when required.
