What to Expect
The Technical Content Supervisor oversees the design and development of learning materials across various products ensuring alignment with instructional standards and adult learning principles. They manage a team of Subject Matter Experts, Instructional Designers, and Technical Writers, guiding curriculum development and maintaining quality assurance. This role also includes project leadership, staff development, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to support educational initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Instructional Design: Develop instructional design documents outlining learning requirements
- Collaborate with the Learning Development Manager to shape project SOWs
- Ensure that instructional materials align with adult learning principles and industry standards
- Maintain quality assurance processes through internal reviews and stakeholder validation
- Guide curriculum development for welding, skilled trades, and related industries
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current instructional design practices and adult learning concepts
- Provide guidance to technical writers, instructional designers, and SMEs on industry best practices and adult learner methodologies
- Project Management: Ensure education products meet established KPIs
- Coordinate and lead client meetings as required
- Collaborate with the Creative Supervisor to define project milestones and deadlines
- Prioritize tasks to align with deadlines and the annual project priorities
- Utilize project management tools to monitor and document progress
- Liaise effectively with the Learning Development supervisors
- Lead instructional design initiatives across projects
- Anticipate and resolve project challenges proactively
- Deliver timely status updates to the Learning Development Manager
- Approve course content before advancing to the next development stage
- Actively participate in team meetings
- Managing Staff: Conduct performance management evaluation of employees and develop ongoing improvement plans
- Ensure individual employee competency in the delivery of multiple products and services through the development and implementation of individual development plans
- Set challenging goals at the individual and team level fostering the execution of individual action plans and teamwork plans
- Monitor progress towards goals and communicate updates, variances, and corrective actions as necessary
- Recognize employees for achievement of action plans and development plans
Other Duties As Assigned: This job may require additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by CWB.
In this position, you will report to the Manager, Learning and Development and will work out of their home office. Travel may be required from time to time. CWB has adopted a remote-first working model, where employees work from their home office, servicing the client within their specified areas either remotely or in person. What You Bring To The Table
- One of the following is required: Undergraduate degree in Education OR Undergraduate degree with Certificate in Instructional Design OR Welding or Skilled Trade Qualification with Certificate in Instructional Design
- 2 years in a Senior Instructional Design role
- 2 years leading project teams
- Remote team leadership
- In-depth knowledge of fund accounting principles and not-for-profit accounting practices
- Understanding of Canadian GAAP as it applies to not-for-profits and registered charities
- Strong analytical and financial reporting skills
- Experience preparing management and external reports in a timely manner
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build partnerships and manage multiple priorities
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience using D2L Brightspace (or other LMS), Microsoft Office, Teams and SharePoint
- Working knowledge of adult learning principles such as ADDIE, DACUM, backward design
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects / deliverables simultaneously
- Ability to translate complex technical content into clear, engaging instructional materials
- Familiarity with welding or other similar trades
Additional Requirements
- This is a remote, work from home position.
- Travel might be required from time to time.
The Following Qualifications Are Considered Assets
- Master’s degree in Education
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design
- Undergraduate degree with 2-year Diploma in Instructional Design
- 5+ years in a Senior Instructional Design role
- 2-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Project Management Certificate (CAPM) or a recognized course for project management for Instructional Design
- Experience developing training standards, curriculum, or educational materials for welding or other skilled trades
- Fundamental knowledge of Articulate 360
