Job summary

Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) is offering a 12- to 16-month technical co-op term for top‑performing 3rd or 4th year Engineering or Science students. You’ll rotate across Regulatory Operations and Technical Services, gaining hands‑on experience in inspections, licensing, and technical assessments, while learning from leading experts.

• Conduct research and analyze findings to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Participate in meetings with national and international stakeholders.
• Collaborate with and learn from world‑renowned experts in science and engineering.
• Support the development of cutting‑edge research, tools, technologies, and systems that keep Canadians safe.
• Develop tools to support project planning, tracking, and reporting.

What You’ll Do:

Over the course of three dynamic work term rotations, you’ll have an opportunity to gain hands‑on experience and build a strong professional network across our Regulatory Operations and Technical Services branches. As part of a comprehensive regulatory and technical training, you will:

• Participate in regulatory activities such as inspections, field sampling, training sessions, application reviews, audits and/or technical assessments on nuclear‑related topics.
• Review and analyze regulatory and technical reports, licensee submissions, and regulatory documentation.
• Conduct research and analyze findings to support evidence‑based decision‑making.
• Participate in meetings with national and international stakeholders.
• Collaborate with and learn from world‑renowned experts in science and engineering.
• Support the development of cutting‑edge research, tools, technologies, and systems that keep Canadians safe.
• Develop tools to support project planning, tracking, and reporting.

Essential Qualifications:

Education: Presently enrolled as a full‑time university/College student in one of the following fields:

• 3rd or 4th year Nuclear Engineering or other engineering specialty relevant to the CNSC’s work.
• 3rd or 4th year Health Physics, Radiation Science, Environmental Science, or other science relevant to the CNSC’s work.

Language Requirements: English essential

Knowledge of:

• Knowledge of the CNSC’s Mandate

Candidates must meet and maintain the following hiring conditions throughout their employment.

Security clearance: Secret level

Medical: A pre‑employment medical evaluation is required.

If applicable, successful candidates will be expected to have their valid work permit in‑hand four months prior to the start date of their co‑op position for security clearance process purposes.
