Job summary

The CNSC seeks a (Senior) Laboratory Instrumentation Technologist to calibrate radiation detection instruments, collect data, and prepare reports for senior staff. This hybrid role requires on-site presence in Ottawa, Ontario with opportunities to collaborate across teams.

You will manage instrument inventories, contribute to project work, respond to service requests, and communicate technical information to clients while upholding quality and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in radiation physics or related field with experience in radiation/contamination detection instrumentation, including instrument design and calibration.
  • Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Bilingual (French and English) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrating radiation detection instruments and preparing associated reports/certificates.
  • Performing regular quality control checks, collecting data and following established procedures.
  • Supporting technical reviews, internal audits, and corrective/preventive actions to improve quality and service delivery.
  • Monitoring and responding to client requests/tickets.

Salary Range: $66,844.00 - $107,500.00/Year(Salary Under Review)

What you’ll do
  • conduct standard calibrations of field (radiation and contamination detection instruments) and reference equipment
  • support the collection and assessment of data including, conducting monthly/annual tests and verifications
  • contribute to the development of reports and documents for review by senior staff
  • manage instrument and equipment inventories
  • participate in projects and initiatives
  • respond to services requests and communicate technical information to clients/end-users
Essential Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or college diploma in radiation physics or a closely related field with experience in radiation/contamination detection instrumentation, including instrument design and calibration.

Language Requirements:

English essential

Experience in:

  • calibrating radiation detection instruments and preparing associated reports/certificates
  • performing regular quality control checks, collecting data and following established procedures
  • supporting technical reviews, internal audits, and/or implementing corrective and preventive actions to improve quality and service delivery
  • monitoring and responding to client requests/ticket system

Knowledge of:

  • the Nuclear Safety and Control Act (NSCA) and its regulations, particularly the Radiation Protection Regulations, the Class II Nuclear Facilities and Prescribed Equipment, Nuclear Substances and Radiation Devices Regulations, and the Packaging and Transport of Nuclear Substances Regulations
  • the use and calibration of various radiation detection instruments
  • client service principles, including understanding client needs, problem-solving, and delivering technical and safety information accurately and professionally
  • radiation protection principles and practices

Ability to:

  • communicate effectively orally and in writing
