Technical Application Specialist
In this role, you will have a dual function to support Customers, Application Engineer Teams, and Sales.
- Partial Discharge Monitoring Expert: You will provide worldwide support for applications in Transformers and Gas Insulated Substations, defining the most efficient monitoring solutions. This includes architecture, selection of the most appropriate coupler, and determining the coupler location based on the type and characteristics of the GIS or Transformer to be monitored. This role involves close cooperation with the Application Engineer Team, Field Service, and Technical departments to define the best solution for specific assets, as well as support in troubleshooting or onsite measurements. Visits to customer installations may be part of the job.
- Technical Support: You will primarily focus on America, providing technical support for Transformer and GIS monitoring solutions, particularly related to Partial Discharge and DGA. As a technical expert, you will work closely with the Engineering department to address technical issues and guide the Field Service department in troubleshooting and onsite interventions, ensuring the best technical support for customer satisfaction.
Organizing training sessions internally and externally for customers will also be part of your responsibilities.
The candidate is a result-driven, self-reliant professional with a strong technical background in monitoring high voltage assets and their integration, covering Transformer and GIS, with deep knowledge and proven experience in Partial Discharge and DGA.
Working experience with Qualitrol monitoring solutions will be highly valued, especially with Online DGA, QTMS, QPDM, and integration of different systems with knowledge of SCADA communication and IEC61850 protocols.
Responsibilities
- PD monitoring layout definition, particularly related to coupler selection and layout to achieve the most efficient monitoring solution for the specific asset.
- Advanced support for PD measurement, verification tests onsite for system sensitivity and attenuation, as well as noise reduction.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot both internal (i.e., Field Engineers) and external customer technical issues for various monitoring devices:
- Transformer monitoring
- Online DGA (TM1, TM3, TM8)
- QTMS, Bushing Monitoring (QTMS-BM), and ITM509
- QPDM
- GIS monitoring
- QPDM, Gen3
- Research and identify solutions to software and hardware issues.
- Remote support for installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repairs.
- Pre-sales/post-sales assistance for CBM projects.
- Provide prompt and accurate feedback to customers.
- Be available for customer visits and onsite travel.
- Properly escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal teams (e.g., Engineering, Quality).
- Ensure all issues are properly logged in Salesforce, prioritize, and manage several open issues simultaneously.
- Follow up with clients to ensure their systems are fully functional after troubleshooting.
- Prepare accurate and timely reports.
- Document technical knowledge in the form of notes.
- Maintain strong, professional relationships with clients.
- Conduct internal and external practical customer training.
- Travel in support of the Field Service Organization.
Qualifications
- Possess 8+ years of relevant experience in field service, R&D.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic or Electrical Engineering or a relevant field of study, preferred.
- Extensive experience with Partial Discharge Measurement in GIS and Transformers.
- Ability to understand and interpret detailed engineering documents, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proven troubleshooting ability to find practical solutions to complex issues to meet customer needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to interface with customers and other departments at different levels to communicate technical ideas clearly and simply.
