Job summary

Canada Life in Calgary, AB seeks a Team Manager, Disability Intervention Services to lead a team of Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants, drive performance, and oversee staff development. This permanent full-time role focuses on coaching, recruiting, and ensuring high-quality disability management outcomes.

The position includes base salary guidance with a range of CAD 71,900–119,800 annually, extensive rewards, and security clearances as required. Travel may be involved.

Qualifications

  • Degree in a discipline related to vocational rehabilitation/rehabilitation counseling or equivalent healthcare experience.
  • Five to seven years of experience in insurance rehabilitation or disability management.
  • CCRC or RRP designation or actively pursuing one.
  • Proven leadership and people-management abilities.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable vehicle when travel is required.
  • Security clearance required as per Government of Canada standards.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficiency and cost-effectiveness of day-to-day services by the team.
  • Coach, supervise, and manage performance of Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants.
  • Recruit and oversee staff development, orientation, and mentoring.
  • Assess ongoing staff development needs and provide coaching.
  • Serve as technical expert on medical coordination and disability management.
  • Ensure adherence to Canada Life claims philosophy and practices.
  • Review and approve plans and expenses per approval processes.
  • Monitor quality program results and identify development areas.

Description:

Permanent Full Time

What you will do:
  • Ensuring the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the day to day services provided by the team of Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants.
  • Coaching, supervision, and performance management of the Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants and on the team.
  • Recruiting of new staff, and oversight of new staff development throughout the orientation, training and mentoring period.
  • Assessment of individual staff development needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Acting as a technical expert to the team on medical coordination and disability management issues.
  • Ensuring that the Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants understand and follow Canada Life's claims philosophy and practices.
  • Assisting the Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants to develop realistic, cost-effective plans.
  • Reviewing and approving the Rehabilitation and Medical Consultant's plans/expenses according to the authority approval process.
  • Ensuring effectiveness of the quality program which involves the completion of Quality Program reviews (assessing plan cost effectiveness, timeliness, and duration of interventions by local Rehabilitation and Medical Consultants’); and identifying areas of development that require further coaching.
  • Monitoring data and reports on Disability Intervention Services effectiveness and individual results related to service standards.
  • Communicating new initiatives affecting the Disability Intervention Services and Disability Management Service organizations.
  • Working in collaboration with all staff of the Disability Management Services Office, as well as the staff from the Group Sales Office.
  • Participating in the delivery of joint training (along with Disability Management Services Office management) regarding national initiatives impacting claims and Disability Intervention Services.
  • Promoting/supporting return to employability meetings within the Disability Management Services Office management team.
  • Promoting Disability Intervention Services with customers and managing the customer/client relationships affiliated with the Disability Management Services claims operation.
  • Providing input into issues as a member of the Disability Intervention Services management team.
What you will bring:
  • Degree in a discipline related to vocational rehabilitation/rehabilitation counseling or experience in disability management as in a licensed health care provider
  • Five to seven years’ experience in the insurance rehabilitation or the field of disability management
  • CCRC or RRP designation or pursuing a designation
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle are necessary when required to travel to client meetings and for operational oversight
  • Reliability Status security clearance - this is a personnel security status that is required before an employee can gain access toProtected Binformation, assets or work sites as outlined by theGovernment of Canada website

The base salary for this position is between $71,900 - $119,800 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
