Job summary

Paladin Security is recruiting Tactical Healthcare Security Officers for Valley Regional Hospital in Nova Scotia. The role focuses on safety, incident response, and customer service within the Emergency Department.

You will respond to alarms, de-escalate conflicts, maintain confidentiality, and work closely with hospital staff and emergency services. A valid NS security license and MOAB/UOF training are required or eligible for Paladin's program.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1–2 years of security experience.
• Fluency in English (oral and written).
• Diploma in Justice studies/police foundations is an asset.
• Must be able to obtain Security License for Nova Scotia.
• First Aid & CPR Level C certification required.

Responsibilities

• Write reports and investigate routine incidents.
• Respond to coded emergencies quickly and professionally.
• Provide excellent customer service and assist patients and staff.
• Maintain physical fitness and be able to stand/sit/walk for extended periods.
• Coordinate with ED staff, law enforcement, and dispatch.

We are currently recruiting for Tactical Healthcare Security Officers for Valley Regional Hospital ** You must be located in the area to be considered. Out of area applications will not be accepted.

Job Description: Be a part of a rewarding career that ensures the safety and security within our Healthcare sites. As a Tactical Healthcare Security Officer, you respond to alarms, emergency requests, and use your excellent verbal de-escalation skills to resolve incidents within the Emergency Department. You always maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling private information, and you never forget to smile while providing your incredible customer service.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

• You will be required to write reports and investigate routine incidents
• Respond to coded emergencies in a quick and efficient manner
• Display excellent customer service skills and be able to work with people who are under stress or in need of medical assistance
• This role requires you to be physically fit and able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time of up to 3-4 hours in between break periods.
• Monitor for and elevate security concerns within the Emergency Department
• Assist in developing security plans for high risk patients
• Provide security presence and support throughout the Emergency Department
• Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques to manage conflicts
• Oversee and support patient watch guards within the Emergency Department
• Work closely with local Law Enforcement and Emergency Services
• Ensure the safety of staff, patients, and visitors within the Emergency Department
• Assist hospital staff with patient restraints as required or directed according to standard operating procedures
• Adhere to all hospital policy and procedures and maintain compliance
• Provide exceptional customer service, with an exceptional smile.
• Prevent theft, violence or infraction of rules and regulations
• Monitor site visitors and perform ID checks in accordance with site policies and procedures
• Respond professionally to site emergencies (alarms, medical emergencies, fires and other urgent matters)
• Effectively communicate all suspicious activities, concerns, issues, and events to our dispatch team on behalf of the clients' assets
• Prepare and maintain professional and effective reports regarding the activities, security violations, and hazardous occurrences on site
• Along with your dedication to utilizing PPE, you regularly patrol the facility so that no potential conflict leaves your sight.

YOU’RE A GREAT FIT IF YOU:

• Must have minimum 1-2 years of experience in security
• Diploma in Justice studies/police foundations is considered an asset
• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia.
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor).
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must.
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) are pre-requisites of this position. Prior training certifications may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
• Applicants lacking acceptable certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability

All our Officers are required to carry a valid Nova Scotia Security License.
