Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking a Casual Patient Watch Security Guard to support multiple hospital sites in Cumberland County, NS. A valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required, with willingness to travel between sites.

You will perform patient watch duties, patrol grounds, monitor cameras, control access, and respond to emergencies with professionalism. English fluency is essential; intermediate First Aid/CPR-C certification is required, and a clear background is expected.

Qualifications

• Valid Driver's License required; personal vehicle preferred.
• English fluency (oral and written) is a must.
• Intermediate First Aid/CPR - C certification required.
• Ability to obtain Nova Scotia security license.
• Previous security, law enforcement, or related field preferred.
• UOF/MOAB training prerequisites or willing to enroll before onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Perform patient watch duties with continuous observation to ensure safety and report concerns.
• Patrol hospital grounds, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances and exits.
• Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems; report suspicious activity to authorities.
• Manage access control to restricted areas; ensure only authorized personnel enter.
• Respond quickly to emergencies and assist hospital staff during crises and evacuations.
• Provide courteous customer service to visitors, patients and staff; give directions.
• De-escalate conflicts and document incidents with accurate reporting.
• Collaborate with hospital staff and local law enforcement for coordinated security.

Position: Casual Patient Watch Security Guard

Site: Multiple sites in Cumberland County

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform patient watch duties , including continuous observation to ensure safety and prevent harm. Monitor and report concerns, de-escalate situations calmly, follow clinical direction, document accurately, maintain confidentiality, and provide a respectful, non-invasive presence.
• Perform Healthcare Security Officer duties as needed:
• Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
• Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
• Access Control : Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
• Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
• Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
• Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
• Collaboration with Hospital Staff : Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
• Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards

Prerequisites:

• Valid Driver's License and personal vehicle
• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia
• Valid Intermediate First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
