Job summary

Paladin Security is seeking a Security Guard for Hants Community Hospital. The role covers patrols, access control, and rapid response to emergencies, with day and night 12‑hour shifts.

The guard will interact with visitors, patients and staff, enforcing hospital policies and providing clear, professional service. Requirements include a Nova Scotia security license, First Aid & CPR Level C, and fluent English.

Qualifications

• Ability to obtain Security License for Nova Scotia.
• First Aid & CPR - Level C Certification.
• English fluency (oral and written) required.
• Previous security, law enforcement or related field preferred.
• Must provide UOF and MOAB certifications.

Responsibilities

• Patrol Hospital Grounds including parking areas, hallways and patient rooms to ensure safety.
• Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems and report suspicious activity.
• Control access at hospital entry points for authorized persons only.
• Respond to emergencies and assist staff during crises and evacuations.
• Provide customer service to visitors, patients and staff; give directions.
• De-escalate conflicts and document incidents clearly.
• Write daily activity reports and incident logs.
• Collaborate with hospital staff and local law enforcement for coordinated security.
• Enforce hospital policies for visitors and patients.

Site Description: Hants Community Hospital serves the communities of Windsor, Hantsport, the Municipality of West Hants and portions of the Municipality of East Hants.

Position Details:

Position: Security Guard.

Site: Hants Community Hospital.

Hours: 12 hour shifts (Day and Night shifts)

Payrate: $ 20.50 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:

• Patrol Hospital Grounds: Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site.
• Monitor Surveillance Systems: Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities.
• Access Control : Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas.
• Respond to Emergencies: Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations.
• Provide Customer Service: Greet and assist visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
• Conflict Resolution: De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally.
• Report Writing: Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns.
• Collaboration with Hospital Staff : Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
• Enforce Hospital Policies: Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed. Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards.

Prerequisites:

• Ability to obtain Security License for the province of Nova Scotia.
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor).
• English (oral and written) fluency is a must.
• Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB).
• Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position.
• Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability.
