Pure Pork Farms Ltd in PEI is seeking a permanent full-time Swine Technician to support daily tasks from farrow to finish. You will assist in feeding, health checks, breeding, and transport preparation, while upholding Canadian Pork Excellence standards.

Ideal candidates are team players with strong organizational skills, a willingness to learn animal behaviours, and a commitment to safety and animal welfare. Training provided on-site near Mt. Albion.

Qualifications

  • One year experience in Swine Industry preferred.
  • Self-motivated with strong work ethic.
  • Willing to learn animal behaviours and welfare.
  • Able to perform routine tasks in a swine operation including health checks and handling.
  • Comfortable with safety protocols and PPE.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in all aspects of a swine operation and daily tasks.
  • Feed, check water, monitor ventilation, and perform health checks.
  • Assist in breeding, farrowing, weighing, and sorting pigs for transport.
  • Wash rooms, maintain cleanliness, and record data promptly.
  • Identify health issues and apply treatments as needed.
  • Follow Canadian Pork Excellence guidelines and safety protocols.

Job description

Pure Pork Farms Ltd is currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Swine Technician. This position is responsible for the daily tasks and standard operating procedures in the farrow to finish production units and to be in compliance with the Canadian Pork Excellence program.

Pure Pork Farms:
  • Is a family owned, farrow to finish pork farm located near Mt. Albion, PE. Our mandate is to ethically raise antibiotic free pork using as many locally supplied inputs as possible, using leading agribusiness practices that promote growth, professionalism, and environmental sustainability in all our team members and in all our services.

You Are:
  • A solution-oriented collaborator, who loves working as part of a team, but can at times work independently.

General Duties:
  • Assist in all aspects of a swine operation
  • Performs daily tasks such as feeding, checking water and ventilation
  • Perform daily health checks and management of swine health
  • Assist in breeding and farrowing duties
  • Assist in weighing and sorting pigs for transport
  • Wash empty rooms and prep rooms for animal entry
  • Able to recognize and treat livestock health issues
  • Keep accurate records and submit them in a timely manner
  • Ensure that the farm’s work environment is safe by using safety equipment and following safety protocols
  • Follow animal welfare policies and procedures including in accordance with Canadian Pork Excellence guidelines
  • Coordinate and perform general repairs and maintenance on facility equipment
  • Assist other farm employees in completing needed tasks of the day
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
  • If required and assigned to manage the team
Skills and Experience Required:
  • One year experience in Swine Industry preferred
  • Self-motivated and excellent work ethic
  • Must be willing to learn and understand animal behaviours
  • Must be willing to perform the following tasks: euthanasia, boar collection, artificial insemination, vaccination, piglet processing, ear tagging, tattooing, pressure washing and other procedures normal to animal husbandry.
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, manure, dust, odours and noisy conditions
